I have been doing business with Lutons Cabins for a number of years but sadly my business relationship has come to an abrupt end.
Recently, after giving a deposit of almost $1,000 in late July to secure a one-bedroom cabin for the week after Labor Day, I needed to revise my plans after a forest fire with lots of smoke broke out in Jackson Hole. I have respiratory problems and cannot endure the heavy smoke. So three-four weeks before the time I was to arrive, I called to advise them I probably would not be able to keep the reservation this year for medical reasons....unless the fires were put out quickly (which they weren't)....I was told they would work with me on it...I later discovered they meant if I came later in September when the fires were still burning.
After calling and cancelling several days later, I was told by the office staff that the Lutons had left for several weeks on a hunting trip and there was no way to know what they would do.
Last week when they returned to their cabin rental business, I was told they would not return ANY of my deposit and unfortunately my health issues did not exempt me from loosing everything. I was told they had lost money when I 'tweaked' my reservation in past years though I had never been told that until now. They also explained that several other people had lost their full deposits this year for similar reasons. Needless to say I am very disappointed.
I can understand them keeping some of my deposit, even up to half, but certainly not all of it, especially since I have done business with them for years and always paid my bills in full on or ahead of time. To me, this is an extremely very poor business decision.
I will never do business with these people again nor recommend them to family, friends or anyone I know.
Be aware that August-September is fire season in Jackson Hole and if you have respiratory issues or any other things that might come, causing you to have to cancel, even weeks in advance, you probably will lose all your deposit. Better to book at the last minute or stay somewhere else. I certainly will and will be the first to take my own hard-earned advice.
