“Unfortunate”

I have been doing business with Lutons Cabins for a number of years but sadly my business relationship has come to an abrupt end.

Recently, after giving a deposit of almost $1,000 in late July to secure a one-bedroom cabin for the week after Labor Day, I needed to revise my plans after a forest fire with lots of smoke broke out in Jackson Hole. I have respiratory problems and cannot endure the heavy smoke. So three-four weeks before the time I was to arrive, I called to advise them I probably would not be able to keep the reservation this year for medical reasons....unless the fires were put out quickly (which they weren't)....I was told they would work with me on it...I later discovered they meant if I came later in September when the fires were still burning.

After calling and cancelling several days later, I was told by the office staff that the Lutons had left for several weeks on a hunting trip and there was no way to know what they would do.

Last week when they returned to their cabin rental business, I was told they would not return ANY of my deposit and unfortunately my health issues did not exempt me from loosing everything. I was told they had lost money when I 'tweaked' my reservation in past years though I had never been told that until now. They also explained that several other people had lost their full deposits this year for similar reasons. Needless to say I am very disappointed.

I can understand them keeping some of my deposit, even up to half, but certainly not all of it, especially since I have done business with them for years and always paid my bills in full on or ahead of time. To me, this is an extremely very poor business decision.

I will never do business with these people again nor recommend them to family, friends or anyone I know.

Be aware that August-September is fire season in Jackson Hole and if you have respiratory issues or any other things that might come, causing you to have to cancel, even weeks in advance, you probably will lose all your deposit. Better to book at the last minute or stay somewhere else. I certainly will and will be the first to take my own hard-earned advice.

In regard to our cancellation policy it is always very difficult for us to keep any deposit. We are not in a location where we get off road traffic which is what our guests love. Most of our guests make reservations several months in advance.

We have a 30 day cancellation policy. If our guests cancel 30 days prior to their arrival we refund their deposit, minus a $75.00 cancellation fee. Within the 30 day period they forfeit their deposit.

However what we have tried to do for our clients when they are unable to come within the 30 days cancellation time if we can re-book their entire stay we will refund the deposit minus a $75.00 cancellation fee. If we can not re-book their stay we have to keep the deposit.

Unfortunately situations arise within the 30 cancellation period where our guests are unable to come. In which case we both take a loss.

Best Regards,
Brad Luton

“Scenic cabins in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2011

This set of duplex cabins is in a great location for both southern Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks. The owners are very helpful and a joy to talk with. It is a very scenic setting no matter what direction your cabin is facing (Cabins 1-7 are perpendicular to the Tetons, 8-9 are caddy-cornered, and the rest face the Tetons).

We stayed for 3 nights of our trip here in a duplex single room cabin and had a neighbor for one night. It was by the laundry room (by rooms 8 and 9), so there were some people walking by our window periodically, but that didn't bother us much. The rooms are very nice (the bathroom is great for a cabin and there's free WiFi, but no TV), and the kitchen comes with all the necessary stuff to cook your own meals. There is also a very nice charcoal grill that you can use which you share with another cabin (Charcoal is not supplied, so stop by the grocery on your way).

The only down side is that if you are in a single room cabin, you can EASILY hear the room next to you. From what I've read, this has been resolved in the 2 bedroom cabins though. This wasn't a problem for us since we got up early, hiked all day, and got back late, but if you're going for a romantic get-away, this might be important (in which case, just reserve a 2 bedroom).

Overall, we were very happy with our stay there. It's an absolutely beautiful setting. If you're looking for a nice, family-owned place to stay, this is the place for you! Enjoy!

“Peace and breathtaking natural beauty”

Luton's Teton Cabins was recommended to us by a friend. They had such a good experience that we decided to book for three nights. We were not disappointed. The cabins are exrememely clean and tidy and well equipped. The wole area was well maintained. We did not have a cabin that faced the mountains but all you had to do was step out of your door and glance to the right from your own porch and there they were in all their glory. Seats are provided for sitting on the porch to sit and take in the landscape.
We both slept like extra logs in the cabin, the bed was really comfortable. We were very late arriving and in the dark we were not sure of the cabin's location. We called ahead to say we were late and were given excellent directions. If you rent a car with a sat nav (GPS) be warned, ours did not find it. As English people, this was our first experiece of satying in a log cabin and were loved it.

“Great Location for the Grand Teton NP”

The cabins are located on a plain with a great view of the mountains. We called from the supermarket at Jackson to say we'd be arriving late and they told us which cabin and where to find the key. In the morning the staff was friendly and gave us good suggestions. The owners had already communicated about recommendations for a Snake River Float Trip, so we just needed some drive times and other suggestions. The cabin kitchen is fully equipped, there was a large dining table and living area. The bedroom(s) had ample closet/dresser space. The heating system worked well. Because it was shoulder season and they weren't fully booked we were upgraded to a 2 bedroom cabin. There is laundry and clothesline on the premise and games to borrow too. The lobby is well stocked with books and info about Grand Teton and Yellowstone NP.

“Pleasant, comfortable - great location”

These are obviously well-run, properly cared for duplex style cabins, They were clean, comfortable and well equipped. Location was very convenient for visiting Grand Teton National Park, but far enough away from the masses to create a peaceful, quiet setting. One thing I wish I had known before we arrived was that our cabin had enough of a kitchen that we could have prepared our own meals, had we brought proper groceries from Jackson. All in all - a very nice place.
