Jackson Hole is a popular destination at just about any time of the year. The Pony Express absolutely floored us with what it had to offer for 99 dollars a night, during a weekend stay in January in prime ski season no less.
LOVED.....For this ridiculously low price we got an updated 2 bedroom 1 bath condo, with a balcony patio providing us with beautiful snow covered mountain views. The living room is large, with a 4 person sofabed couch plus 2 reclining armchairs. There is a large flat screen tv and dvd player. The kitchen is beautiful with granite counters, light wood cabinetry, coffee maker, 4 burner electric stove, oven, full size refrigerator and freezer, and all the utensils, pots and pans in like new condition. There is a cute square four person dining table next to the kitchen. Everything in the kitchen including appliances were spotlessly clean when we arrived. There is even a mini foyer as you enter into the condo, which provides ample room for storing ski/snowboard gear, coats, gloves, etc. The bedrooms were smallish, but the ample lighting and white bedding in the bedrooms makes the room very light and bright. I thought the pillows were super comfortable. Each bedroom has a window which backs out onto a steep slope and has no view. The carpet in all areas looked clean and in great condition, with no stains or wear showing whatsoever. The balcony, though it overlooks a busy intersection, was not badly noisy at all. A friend and I sat there and talked for quiet a while with just normal voices and weren't once disturbed by traffic. You get a plastic table and four chairs to sit on and enjoy the gorgeous view. See the pictures I posted. Also, no road noise could be heard from inside the condo. I loved the condos location personally, I mean every morning we were right at the intersection that takes us to Jackson Hole Ski Resort, so definitely a plus. See this hotel on Google maps for a much better idea of where it is and the surrounding area as well as the views. You will see how amazing this location actually is. The condo is on the second level, near the right corner of the motel, and has a private staircase which you share with the room next to it. We stayed in unit 3. It was listed as the Deluxe 2 Bedroom Condo when we made the reservations. OMG, I loved this condo, want to go back again!!!!!! This condo had all the charm of America's last western town, and the Pony Express kept the atmosphere real and authentic. After our stay here, we're deciding that the kind of attitude and atmosphere small hard working places like the Pony Express provide are far more enjoyable and more to our liking than 10 concierges kissing our *** at Deer Valley. Jackson Hole, Wilson, and Teton Village, are some of the most beautiful winter places I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The owners are very welcoming and genuine friendly people.
DISLIKED....The terra cotta tiles in the foyer and bathroom were kind of gross, it just gave both rooms an unclean appearance and feel. The bathroom I just hated. I think I was most repulsed by the fact that both bath rugs, by the vanity as well as the toilet, had visible brown wear marks. I wish housekeeping could have spent a little more time, bleached the mats, and made sure guests had clean mats to use. They absolutely looked like they hadn't been washed after someone else used them. Very gross. The toilet is very small, and the kind that splashes a lot of water. You get a shower and bathtub, the shower head was ok, and provided a great flow of pure water instead of aerated water. The other gross thing in the
bathroom was the medicine cabinet - stained, dingy and unclean. Lastly, there are two European girls housekeeping for the Pony Express. I was in the condo the morning they came, and they don't do a good or clean job at all. The beds didn't look made, the bathroom was not cleaned very well, etc. Maybe they just do light touch ups during guest stays and major clean up in between rentals, I don't know, they just did a poor job while I was there. But then again, you do get daily housekeeping with no cleaning charges at this motel, so this is something that I can look the other way at. I think a better cleaning staff could do wonders for this hotels bright future. I didn't see an iron or ironing board even though I had requested one in advance. There were no tvs in the guest bedrooms, which is almost a necessity when your staying with a larger group. The maintenance of the units needs to be done much better. Half of the lights in our condo weren't working. The two main ceiling spot lights in the living room were both not working so we had to use the lamps, and the lamp in one of the bedrooms had no bulb. Little things like this are unexcusable, and much better care needs to be given here.
AMENITIES....No amenities here really, like no pool, no hot tub, no continental or hot breakfast, etc. But at this price range for this room type that is completely acceptable. If the rate rises, then definitely consider other options.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED :)
Room Tip: Unit 3 is excellent for the deluxe 2 bedroom. Quiet semi private staircase and top floor location me...
