It took us a while to find Crooked Creek Guest Ranch, despite our GPS. The location is very nice and remote and ideal for a get-away. They offer trail rides on friendly horses, but don't expect to trot or lope. The scenery is well worth it, though. The only thing that bothered us was the water quality in our otherwise very cozy cabin; it smelled like sulfur and it did not help to let the water run for a while, as was suggested to us. We ended up brushing our teeth with drinking water we happened to have brought along. My husband was frequently woken up by a noise coming from the wall, which was probably the water heater.

My family has stayed at the Crooked Creek guest ranch for each of the last several summers. It is located about 15 miles from Dubois, WY (small town on US 26 on the way to Yellowstone and Teton NP) and up Union pass road.

During the summer it is a very family oriented place with ATV and horse back riding rentals, fishing closeby, and the continental divide (about another 15 miles drive up Union pass road... but hey you drove this far what's another 15 miles).

The staff is usually very friendly although they tend to turn over from summer to summer.

Lodging is in detached cabins (~15) with 1 - 3 rooms depending on configuration. Some have TVs but reception is spotty. Sullen teanagers might not like the lack of TV but hey you didn't drive here to sit in the cabins rather you're here to take in the great outdoors. Cabins are serviced every other day.

The food at the dining hall is good, reasonably priced, and
comes in large portions. Service at the bar (open 5 to whenever) is nice as well.

If you're looking for an out of the way, quiet locations, with plenty of outdoor activities and friendly staff then this is the place for you.


The guest

We took our first trip to Wyoming for our daughter's wedding. We wanted to see the Tetons while there and LUCKILY spoke to a hotel in Dubois that recommended this lodge. The scenery was awesome, the staff was great and we just had the very best of times. The bar area was clean and quiet, with pool tables and a juke box. The well heeled guest were such that we felt comfortable as a family everywhere we went. The views were unbelievable and the horse back riding enjoyable. We are planning our summer 2008 trip now.

My husband and I had the best weekend at the Crooked Creek Guest Ranch. The owners Mike and Susie accomodated us from lodging to getting our snowmobiles ready. Beautiful lodge and lots of groomed trails. A weekend we will never forget.
