“Avoid this place at all costs!”

This hotel was a gem many years ago when it was called The Downtowner Motor Inn. They had valet parking and a top notch restaurant. Then it was utilized by the Union Pacific railroad to house their train personnel out of North Platte and Rawlins. It is now nothing more than a filthy, bug-infested DUMP! The railroad no longer uses it and anyone who does regrets it I assure you. I will not bore you with the details, but I would not stay here again even if the price of the room was $20. I might do it for $10, but I'd be sure to have my own bedding, towels and locks for the door. Location is great for downtown Cheyenne, but EVERYTHING else from hospitality to cleanliness is TERRIBLE! Go ahead and sleep here, I dare you!

“Central Plaza Hotel Cheyenne, WY. Do NOT stay here!”

Even if you are only looking for a room at the cheapest price, I still wouldn’t recommend this hotel! This whole Cheyenne Frontier Days hotel rates that are double and triple of the normal pricing and 30 day cancellation policy is ridiculous! I really doubt the good reviews on this site are legitimate, because the place was very dirty, run down, and smelly! If they did renovations or upgrades since 2006, when the new owners purchased it, I couldn't see any evidence of it. As stated in other reviews, the elevator was dirty, the carpets needed cleaning in the hallways and it was dingy. Now let me describe my room. The door had a huge gap at the bottom allowing the heat to pour in and the air conditioner above the door did not cool the room. It had duck tape holding part of it up and it only blew out of one vent , which went straight up to the ceiling. There was a used napkin crumpled up on the floor below the TV stand. The chair had grimy stains on the armrests. The beds, linens, and furniture all looked to be of very low quality. Maybe they were purchased at yard sale somewhere. The bathroom area seemed to be fairly clean until I looked further. Yuck! There was no coffee pot or hair dryer. The three styrofoam cups near the sink were just stacked there with no plastic cover to keep them clean. When I was leaving I noticed that someone had thrown up on the sidewalk outside the hotel. Obviously I did not feel it was safe to stay there. Unfortunately there were no other rooms available at any hotel or motel close to Cheyenne, believe me I tried for find one for quite a while . After driving several hours to attended Cheyenne Frontier Days and a concert, I then drove two more hours just to avoid staying at that hotel. By the way, the concert was great and the festivities were fun! The town officials should mention to these hotel owners, that they are not promoting a good image for the town. They are certainly not leaving people with the desire to return to their town. I will definitely make other arrangements to avoid staying in Cheyenne, if I ever go back to their Frontier Days Rodeo and Celebrations!

“One of the worst rooms I have ever been in.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2009

I don't know where the nice rooms were that the other reviewers stayed in, but ours was awful. It was blustery the day we were there, and the door was so drafty that it allowed enough wind in that the curtains (which were torn and shabby) were blowing in the wind. The room didn't really get warm. The fan for the heater was so loud that we had to sleep using earplugs. The bathroom was horrid. The rubber mat in the tub had been there so long that it was a permanent part of the tub. There was mildew in all the caulking, and the soap dish was rusted through. There was no place to plug in a laptop. There was a desk with no chair. The upholstered chairs were dirty. I wouldn't walk on the carpet without shoes. The sheets and towels were clean and that is the only thing I can say positive about the room. I booked through Hotwire, which I will never do again after this experience.

“Still my favorite place to stay in Cheyenne.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2009

I've stayed here several times since my 2007 review and still find it as nice as it was then. The owners are as pleasant and accommodating as can be, the rooms are nicely appointed, clean and quiet, and no other guests have been remotely unpleasant. I have stayed elsewhere in Cheyenne but prefer the Grand (the Central Plaza), and not because of the budget price.

“Nice, Comfortable, Clean, Good Location, Quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2009

Now the Central Plaza, the new owners have done a good job rejuvinating this hotel, good location in town near restaurants etc., but far enough away from the train tracks that train noise is not an issue. Good basic room, comfortable, clean. Nothing fancy, but a great value. Did not eat at the on-site restaurant so no comment on that. Owners were very accomodating, and beyond that nice people who seemed to be always on-site. Will definitely stay here again when in Cheyenne.
