“Glacier Canyon Wisconsin Dells”

THE Place to go in Wisconsin dells --we have stayed here several times. However, I would only recommend staying in the Glacier Canyon Condos -- I wouldn't really recommend the Wilderness hotel. differences:

hotel -- is just a hotel -- rooms are getting a bit outdated, older, not very big. To be fair, the last time we stayed in the hotel was at least 6 years ago

Glacier Canyon Lodge -- this is fabulous. We always try to get the presidential floor (that is the top floor) and the rooms are amazing. We usually stay in a 4 bdrm Presidential with another family. It has 4 bedrooms and 3 (or 4) bathrooms. The rooms are HUGE -- the best part is that they have a huge central area, very large dining table and beautiful kitchen (granite counter tops etc). The kitchen is quite large, we usually go to walmart upon our arrival and pick up a weeks worth of groceries. It is SO easy to make your meals in this huge kitchen (lots of cabinet space, full size appliances). We have 7 kids between the 2 families, we will make meals for the kids and the adults will go out for dinner a few times -- the kids are usually tired from all the fun and need a break so they are HAPPY to hang back in the room watching a movie etc... The waterpark at Wilderness is really fun. Last time we were in the area we also spent 1 day at Kalahari's indoor arcade, that was fun but very expensive. Look for coupons! One of my kids FAVORITE things to do....there is a park not far from the dells -- Devils Lake -- the park is absolutely beautiful! The hiking is amazing, the lake is breathtaking --- I would compare it to Lake Tahoe. It is just gorgeous. We have gone twice to this park and it has never been busy. We usually visit the area in April -- so not high traffic time. The park is a GREAT getaway -- maybe 20 minutes from the hotel -- and the kids love to hike and get a little 'outside' time. Overall -- this is a GREAT getaway -- your family will love it -- I recommend spending extra days so you can really relax and not feel like you NEED to be using the waterpark 24x7.
The only downfall -- if you have small children -- the walk from the glacier canyon to the waterparks is not short......depending on where your room is -- you could be walking up to 20 minutes (maybe more) to get to the park --- BRING a stroller if you have little ones -- you will need it! You can take the shuttles but sometimes they seem like more hassle than not.....and if you have little ones with a bunch of stuff -- a little difficult.

We stayed at the lake condos one year when we had little ones (2 years old) and it was wonderful. The lake condo has its very own 'small' waterpark right in the hotel, it is fabulous for small children - very easy for you as parents to watch them play and not crazy busy as it is in the wilderness waterparks. If you want to be able to 'sit' and watch the kids - this is a great place to be. Our hubbys and older kids would just take the shuttle over to the wilderness and us moms stayed back and played with the little ones in the smaller waterpark. The little ones love it and so did we -- if you are in the Wilderness - you have to FOLLOW your little one everywhere -- you will lose them in 3 minutes flat - the 'little' kid areas are huge and they aren't just little kids playing in those areas.

overall -- a definite MUST visit for families -- you will love it here - the kids will have a blast.

fyi-- they do not have any maid service on the condos (which is a positive for us! -- we prefer to not have someone coming in/out of our rooms)

oh-- they also plan activities for kids -- this is wonderful -- they do a duck race some mornings and they do bingo etc...my kids love the break from the waterpark. The arcade is also a ton of fun as well as the laser tag (we usually do one family game of laser tag).

pack light -- the condos have washer/dryers --another HUGE benefit -- you can wash your clothes before you go home! this is such a must have when traveling with children!

Room Tip: Glacier Canyon Lodge -- stay in the condos -- upper floors are SO nice! ASK for a room closest to t...

“Great time as usual”

We have stayed at the Glacier Canyon Lodge many times and have always had a great time, we love that the price of the room comes with free indoor waterparks and my kids love the indoor play area. the rooms are clean and nicely decorated, i was a little worried after reading some reviews concerning bed bugs, but when we got there i did a very detailed scope of the room and found no trace of an infestation, or there ever being one in that condo. The pools are extremely crowded and you have to get there early to get a place to put your stuff down. If your looking for quiet and romantic don't stay here. Its perfect for families as there is a ton of stuff to do. Dining in the Dells is also a bit of an adventure, the food is generally terrible. Our favorite place to eat at is Paul Bunyans but that is closed from Oct-March. Dining on actual Wilderness property isn't recommended, food is for convenience rather than to be enjoyed here.

“Nice for a small city”

Our rating has nothing to do with the quality of the property, amenities, or cleanliness. Our 2 bedroom condo was very nice and well decorated...with the exception of the kitchen...wine glasses seem pretty basic, and some of the cooking equipment looked like it came from a Goodwill or antique store.

Our complaint, and it really depends on what you are looking for and expecting, is the place is so big. To get to any of the many attractions is a real walk. Walking is fine but at some point it becomes a waste of time....assuming you get your exercise otherwise. The place is simply HUGE. Understandably in order to pay for all the features this place has to offer, you have to have a lot of units but we found it just overwhelming both in size and the crowds. If you have a high tolerance for crowds and walking, you'll be fine.

We got there on a Thursday and we are so happy we did. By Friday afternoon the skyways were packed as well as the water parks. The hot tubs were literally standing room only and I got a little queazy thinking about the water quality. We thought because this is a water park that only allows guests to use it, over crowding would be less of an issue, but the ratio of units to water park size is just too unbalanced. My guess is that would be better in the summer with all their outdoor areas, but then the number of occupied units may be even higher so not sure if it would be better or not.

We enjoyed many of the activities, especially laser tag, but at the end of the day the positives were overcome by the ratio of people to water park size.

The one other complaint...be prepared for the prices. We are not naive in terms of what the norm is at these places, but some things were simply over the top for what you got. A order of nachos which consisted of a bag of no name chips and a tiny container of melted cheese that had no taste was $5.20. The pizza we had from their Italian restaurant was incredibly expensive and mediocre at best. Each topping is $2.29 if that gives you a clue. Two medium pizzas and two salads were over $50. The crust was very soggy...especially so for a thin crust. We usually get one from Pizzeria Uno across the street, but we were lazy as they don't deliver. Don't make the same mistake.

If you are looking for a better balance of activities, walking time and crowd control, I'd check out Great Wolf....that's where we will head again next time. I would also suggest their food prices and quality are better better from our experience.

“Small Get Away....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

This was our first time staying at the Glacier Canyon in the winter. We stayed in a 1 bedroom deluxe the first week for January with our timeshare (Wyndham). We arrived around 3:30p and decided to check in early. To our suprise the room was ready since we normally wait till 4p or sometimes till 5p to have our rooms ready. The front desk employees were nice as always.

Nothing different of a one bedroom compared to the 2 or 3 bedroom deluxe. Minus the extra rooms. The washer and dryer are next to the bathroom. The bathroom has two doors which one leads into the dining room and the other to the master bedroom. Normal wear and tear can be seen in the room such as the sink, beds, furniture.

Water parks were not that buys asides from the Wild Water Dome. All the rest had some crowds.

The only downside to our stay was the temperatures of the skyway to water park, the price of food at the stores, no Disney Channel for the kids and as always the "visit" from a sales rep from Wyndham. Did have to call front desk and complain about the room upstairs. Other than that over all stay was great. will be heading back to stay at a 2bedroom predsidential suite.

“Great place for kids - lots of walking.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We stayed at one of the timeshares (3 bed/3 bath deluxe) that we bought on ebay. It is all part of The Wilderness Resort. They had three indoor waterparks, laser tag, a four-story climbing area, two different 3-D mini golf courses and indoor bumper boat, not to mention the ongoing kids activities at two different kids clubs - oh and they also have three arcades, a haunted mansion and a mirror maze. You can buy a pass for $17 that lets you go to all the things that require admission, and it is a pretty good deal if you will be there long enough to participate in everything. Our three bedroom deluxe was wonderful. It easily slept all 10 of us. There is a lot of walking, because everything is so spread out, but a five or ten minute walk gets you where ever you want to go, and the timeshare section is connected by an indoor skywalk, so you never need to go outside. We had kids with us ranging in age from 4 to 13, and they all enjoyed themselves. I would highly recommend buying through ebay, because we got a great deal ($829 for four nights). If waws pretty busy, but this was the week between Christmas and New Years when most kids are out of school. They say check in is at 4:00 but beware, it starts at 4:00 and "depends on availability". We didn't get in until after 5:00 and that was only because I made a real pest of myself. That was, however, the only problem, and I would highly recommend the resort.

Room Tip: Ask for skywalk level.
