My husband and I decided to come to the Dells for a short get-away, but didn't want to spend a lot on a hotel so we could do other activities. The room was $50 a night, and got decent reviews, so we decided to go for it. When you check in, they have you pay up front, give you a piece of paper to put in your car window to park there, and explain basic things like the pool, parking, etc. They gave us a coupon for $20 off admission to Mt. Olympus (making it $15 per person), and a coupon to use at Passport to Savings stands along the downtown strip good for 25% off certain activities (Noah's Ark, Tommy Bartlett show, Wizard Quest, Ripley's Belive it or Not, and others). The also have coffee and individually wrapped what look like Little Debbie Honey Buns in the mornings for 'breakfast.'
LOCATIONS:
Location is good - it is on the far end of the downtown strip - you can walk to all of the shops and activities that are right there.
BASIC ROOM INFO:
We stayed in a room with one bed. Rooms are small, but adequate - room for a bed, a side chair on either side of the bed, a stand with a tube TV, a small frigde and microwave, and a small bathroom. Room is very outdated - flowery wallpaper, furniture from the 70's, old blue carpet. Like other reviews say, they put fake flowers and doilies around the room to decorate it, which is cute. Room appeared clean (no dust, visible dirt, or bugs). It still grossed me out, though, because everything is so old, and carpet had stains. Bed was very hard and uncomfortable, pillows very flat - made for an uncomfortable night's sleep. Like another review said, bedspread old - looked clean enough, but we also brought our own blanket to use instead. Rooms have window A/C units, which worked well and was very loud. The noise doesn't bother us, though, as we usally sleep with a box fan, anyway. Water pressure in the bathroom was fine for us. It did take awhile to warm up, and then the water was really hot, so we had to turn it back down, but then it was just fine. They give you a really cheap, small bar of soap to use, and 2 packets of no-name shampoo. Obviously, you should bring your own soap and shampoo there. Towels are very thin and old. The WORST thing was every day there were hairs in our towels! Long, dark hairs in every single towel! It was so disgusting. The first day I went to the office to get new ones, and waited for almost 10 minutes before anyone came. I tried to explain to the owner that I needed new towels because there were hairs in all of them. I'm not sure if he speaks much English, because he just nodded and smiled, and then brought new ones to the room. The next day, I had to send my husband to get some because I was already in the shower. He waited and waited at the office, but no one ever came. Therefore, I ended up drying off with a t-shirt instead. I honestly have no idea how there were hairs in every single towel, but make sure you check them if you stay here!! (Or better yet, bring your own.)
Basically, if you stay here, make sure you bring your own towels, blanket, pillows, toiletries, and some flip flops or something to wear around the room. It's okay for a cheap room, but if you can afford one of the nice resorts - stay there. Next time we go to the Dells, we will spend more to stay somewhere much better. We actually ended up leaving a day early because I couldn't stand another day/night of horrilble sleep, hair in our towels, and feeling grossed out in general by the room. I must qualify by saying my husband wasn't as grossed as I was. It's okay if you want something cheap, but aren't planning on spending much time at all there.
