Some friends and I were looking for a reasonably-priced place to sleep while road-tripping through Wisconsin Dells over the Memorial Day weekend, and ended up at the Mayflower. We were pleasantly surprised by the experience. Driving along Wisconsin Dells Parkway, you see a lot of unpleasantly kitschy hotels and motels, and the Mayflower distinguishes itself by being pretty sedate and solid-looking, bereft of unicorns or giant orcas or concrete candy floss.
The motel is large and sprawling, surrounding several nice pools, not all of which were full of water when we were there. We had a ground floor room near the back of the property, which was nice and quiet. The room itself was very large and clean, with two queen-sized beds, a table for writing, a fridge and microwave and a television. As travelers who come with a variety of laptops, chargers, and other electronic devices, we really appreciated that the outlets in the room were plentiful and accessible. We also appreciated the free wi-fi access.
We took advantage of an indoor pool and hot tub, as well as the on-site coin laundry. The pool area seemed very well-maintained, and the hot tub was comfortably but assertively hot. The only difficulty we had with the stay was that the towels in the room were small, and there were not enough of them for us to all dry off after using the pool and still have dry towels for showering. However, when we called the front desk to ask for more, they quickly delivered us a giant stack of bath towels, so it turned out to not be much of a problem after all.
When we checked in, the front desk staff gave us a discount pass for a lot of the area attractions, which we didn't end up using, but which seemed like a pretty good deal. All in all, we thought the Mayflower was good value for the money, and a nice place to stay.
