“Another Great Stay at Sundara”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

My wife and I recently spent our fifth annual stay at Sundara. As always, we had an absolutely wonderful time. Make sure to take advantage of the outdoor pool, whatever the temperature. (It was about 15 degrees when we were there!) This trip was also the first time that we enjoyed dinner in our suite. I would highly recommend this option.

“Tranquil Retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I spent a Wednesday here (as a day guest) and it was truly wonderful. I seemed to be was apparently the only solo guest in the place - I'm surprised more people don't do this - it's a really great way to clear your mind and just...be. Do yourself a favor. Take a day off work, book a service, and go really early. Take a few or a whole bunch of hours to swim outside, soak in the hot tub, do the bath ritual at a very liesurely pace, and then relax in the quiet room and read, write, meditate or just stare out the window. Sometimes it's very productive to have a day of doing absolutely nothing. Only negatives - a couple louder, chattier groups, but they did keep the noise out of the quiet room. And on two visits now I have found most of the reception staff to be snooty.

“just stayed in a perfect room 2211”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

For the past few years I come to Sundara on my birthday to start my next year renewed. This year I stayed in room 2211 and it was perfect. Last year the temp outside was -10 and I went swimming outdoors at night and it was awesome. This year it was warmer but a full moon and it was inspiring to swim under full moon during the winter. Every year I try a different style massage and this year my therapist, Mel, did a wonderful Marma massage. I went back to the room and took a two hour nap. This is the best place to start a new year.

Room Tip: if you can get a room on the second floor, in the morning you just walk a few feet to the breakfast...

“Is Sundara going down hill?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I just returned home after a one day excursion to the spa, my second in the last year.

I stayed in room 2211, and upon entering the room, was immediately disappointed to see worn furniture with scratches and water marks, and a dirty carpet. Though the reservation agent I had spoken with was very friendly, the robes in the room were not the size I had requested when making my reservation.

The purifying bath ritual, which I had really looked forward to, was tarnished a bit my unfriendly staff both in the male and female locker rooms. It was a very quiet night at the spa, but staff seemed to be counting down the minutes until their shifts were over, and were hesitant to answer questions. There hurried and cold interactions were very unsettling, and though we left in plenty of time before the spa closed, we were still met with odd stares, and I was unable to shower in the locker room because the stalls were being cleaned. In addition, it was impossible to order food or drinks in the pool area, as there were no staff circulating. We left the spa to place an order at the information desk, which seemed unnecessary.

Upon returning to our room at 8pm, the turn down service, which I had declined on the phone had taken place. Yet another disappointment.

The only sem-positive part of the experience was the pedicure, but that too ended in a disappointing way, when I sought a polish touch up at check out, but there was no one to assist me. I am now at home, repainting my nails after a whopping $120 pedicure, and really upset abut the way we were treated, and about the conditions that seemed to follow us throughout the stay.

I had anticipated a really exemplary experience at Sundara, as my first experience had been, but am really disappointed. I don't foresee returning unless there are improvements made, and would certainly not stay in the same room that we were assigned for this visit. Is Sundara going down hill?

Room Tip: My room was in horrible shape. Maybe you need to spend even more money for a room that's clean...

“Average Spa Services, Beautiful Property”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I am a Massage Therapist and once a year my husband and I try a new Spa. This one was rated in the top 100 Spa's of America. They were running a special price on the villa's so we rented one of the villa's with jacuzzi, kitchen, LR, etc. Beautiful property. The pool/jacuzzi was fantastic and having a driver come pick you up at your door was great. But, when it came to my massage and the Spa Facilities, I was disappointed.

The indoor jacuzzi was getting so slimed on the second day we were there, I didn't get into it. My spa session was for the Shiro Dhara Chakra Series for 75 minutes. It was just average. It felt like the therapist didn't do this type of treatment very often and it didn't have the flow to it that would give a client a great experience. My husband had the Hands and Feet Combination and enjoyed it very much. He said his therapist was experienced and created a good session.

Breakfast is set up in a tundra and hallway so felt a bit awkward.

When we went to check out, they had charged us full price and so I had to produce my paperwork to prove that I had made the reservations under a special price. She was not going to honor what I had verbally stated.

We have traveled to many Spa's in US and Mexico and the only thing that left me feeling cold was the staff. Too impersonal and acted as if they were always doing you a favor. Not the way to run a Spa. For the price, I expect to be fully pampered and treated with respect.

Again the property is beautiful but the Spa Services are average.
