“kids loved it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

we went in June 2011 with our daughter and 4 grandkids. spent 2 nights. the previous summer we went to great wolf but since we are on a tighter budget we chose the polynesian for its price. the water park was excellent. clean and fun. the kids had a ball and although the place was busy it did not seem overcrowded.

the room was ok. we found the beds uncomfortable. the sofa opened into a large bed which was great for the kids.

“OK place, decent value, no wireless”

I was among the first people to stay at this hotel when it opened circa 1990. It was kind of a cutting-edge place back then with its own outdoor waterpark on the property. But it hasn't changed much since then, especially the hotel rooms themselves. Yes, the decor is very dated, but I just don't see that as a real problem. The biggest problem for me is the lack of wireless internet throughout the hotel. That just doesn't cut it in 2011. It is obvious that there has been essentially no investment in accommodations since the place opened. Apparently there's a newer indoor waterpark, but all of it was closed since we stayed here after Labor Day. So I can't comment on that.

I got a very good deal on a suite because it was midweek in the low season. The room was clean enough, though it could have been vacuumed better. Bathroom was fine. The bed mattress wasn't the quality you'll find in newer hotels, so it wasn't as comfortable, but it wasn't bad. They wheeled a pack&play into the room for our child. There was no charge for that, which is nice -- other places in the area charge as much as $10.

I'd certainly stay here again if it were just for an overnight place. Not sure about doing an extended stay here (partly because of the lack of wifi), though other reviews are fairly positive. For a better resort/waterpark, the Wilderness/Glacier Canyon are way better, but also generally more expensive.

“Great budget waterpark for families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

This is the second time we have stayed at the Polynesian with our 3-year old son. The waterpark is perfect for his age (he's a VERY adventurous kid--rode the biggest slides). Is it the best water park in the Dells? No, and the rooms are outdated and worn (1980s), but we love the price, the rooms are good enough, and the waterpark is just right for us. Plus, it is super close to the (overpriced) must-go Paul Bunyan's restaurant.

“Labor Day Weekend”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

Horrible! Worst Hotel I have been to. The halls smelt like trash, elevator was wet and dirty the rooms smelt terrible when we first got it and after we checked out. The beds were hard and lumpy. Pull out sofa bed was junk and smelled terrible. Stains on ugly green carpet. Overprice food. (Just go to Walmart and buy microwaveable snacks) T.V. had 5 stations. Had to go to the lobby to get in internet signal and to watch kid-appropriate shows like Disney Channel. (had to share the tv with strangers) horrible security. Keep your rooms door locked at all times and DO NOT LOSE YOUR HOTEL KEY. Do not answer your door without peeking through the peek hole. Any person can walk up into the hotel/ resort because the outside doors do not lock all the way. Watch and stay with your children at all times!! Keep valuables in safe or in the car dont leave stuff out. This resort is for little kids for ages 11 and under older children will Easily get bored. Also this is a FAMILY resort so the deepest pool goes to 4 feet.

Room Tip: Buy lots of Snacks and microwaveable things for room

“Very Nice, Smaller Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

My husband & I stayed with our four kids (Ages 6, 7, 14 & 14) during Labor Day weekend. This resort was great & all of the kids loved it! They had a variety of things to do, from water slides, a lazy river, water basketball, a few pools, kids play areas, whirlpools & a sauna. They had two game rooms--which the kids didn't use--they were too busy with all of the water activities. The price was reasonable & check-in & check-out was very smooth. Our room was very clean, however, the bed was extremely uncomfortable. There was a small table, a mini fridge & microwave in the room as well. We ordered Pizza Pub pizza (which is the best in the Dells--we order it everytime we go down there). While the two older boys kept an eye on their younger sisters, my husband & I did sneak away to the Tiki Bar for a while outside. Michael, the bartender, was awesome! We actually met with one of the owners & were able to tell him personally that he did a stand out job. Great personality & very attentive. It did start to rain later in the evening & they had to shut down the outside waterpark because of the lightning. But the kids never once complained about having to be inside only. They were also up early & wanting to go back down to the water--no interest in breakfast. The toiletries provided in the room were Bath & Body works products (lotion, shampoo, conditioner, soap) which was very nice also. Overall, it was a great place to stay at--not too large but had plenty to offer. We would definetly stay here again in the future.
