Arrived at 11:30pm. Hotel was not very busy. After arriving in our room, discovered the television remote was missing. Notified desk, who offered to bring a remote to the room.

We booked a 2 queen room. After unpacking and changing for bed, discovered candy wrappers between the sheets of one bed, and used pillowcases on the pillows. It was now 12:30 am, and we were too tired to redress and repack to change rooms. Opted to stay in the one clean bed.

Notified managemant of the problem on check out. Management offered a discount , but then stated she could not give the discount, because the room had been "prepaid through Wyndham Reservations", and only they could offer the discount. Wyndham advised each hotel has the option of making these changes.

Hotel is very nice, has a kiddie pool attraction, and Roxy the manager & front desk staff were incredibly accommodating. Vintage, the restaurant, is pricey but serves delicious culinary delights.

Staff was friendly. Hotel was just ok. There was a lot of hair in our bathroom (I cannot stand to see that), which made me wonder if it had been cleaned. We were attending the Oshkosh Air Show. The person who made the reservation said the site was within walking distance, which it was, across a four lane highway that had a barrier. We found a shuttle to take us back and forth. I would stay there again if I couldn't find something else.

I booked this hotel though Hotwire and prepaid in full before arrival.

When checking in, reception recognized the booking was prepaid, but asked for my credit card number to cover any extra incidental fees (which is a normal practice). Upon checking out I was informed that there were no extra charges and that everything had been paid for in advance.

Luckily I checked over my credit card statement a few days after checkout. I was shocked to find that the Hawthorn Suites had charged my credit card for the full price of the stay. I effect, they double charged me after I left, and without my knowledge.

To make matters worse, it took several phone calls to sort the whole mess out. The hotel did not apologize. They informed me that it was standard practice to secretly bill the guest if they did not receive payment from Hotwire before checkin.

That is a poor excuse. The hotel chooses to list their room and accept bookings from Hotwire. If they have an issue with payment then they should be contacting Hotwire directly to obtain payment, rather then secretly charging the customer (and hoping they do not notice the double charge).

I wonder how many other guests this hotel has double charged for stays. In this case the hotel deserves a "terrible" rating for deceptive billing.
