“Great location for Riverside Theater & dog-friendly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

We had to bring our 14 y.o. pug with us to a Milwaukee & this is one of the few hotels that takes dogs downtown near the Riverside Theater. We had reserved a suite, but the heat wasn't working in any of the suites. They had 2 space heaters in the suite, but we chose to take a regular rm instead as we really didn't need all that room & I wasn't comfortable running space heaters all night! Std Rms were clean & roomy & reasonable at $80 + taxes & we weren't charged a pet fee. Good free continental bkfst & free WiFi. Friendly & helpful staff. No pool or restaurant, but there are plenty of places to eat nearby...Also a convenience store next door and small shopping mall across street (Boston Store, TJ Maxx, AppleBee's, etc). Self-Pkg across st. for $12/day, which is reasonable for the city...We would stay here again! Bldg built in 1924.

Room Tip: Room 306 overlooks the street, if you want a good view of the Holiday Parade in November.

“Cleand and Comfortable, No Surprises, Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

The hotel is not luxury but my room was clean, confortable, spacious enough and no surprises which is a good thing. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is free wifi and breakast. I stayed here for a conference at the Hyatt 2 blocks away and paid $50 less a night even including the discount the conference negotiated so I think a very good value.

“Good price, great location, okay hotel.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

We stayed here for two nights during Family Weekend for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. It's in a great location, in the middle of Old World, within walking distance of many great restaurants, shopping and attractions. The front desk staff was friendly overall but not especially helpful when we asked questions about "tourist" activities. They just pointed us to the rack of literature in the lobby. Our room was a 2 room suite, which was perfect for our family. But it needed a good deep cleaning. There were some issues, such as burned out lights in the bathroom, black out curtains that weren't large enough to cover the window, and dirty carpet. They do not have their own parking facility, nor do they have an arrangement with the nearest parking ramp. Coming and going several times during the day meant our parking fees were higher than expected. I'm not sure we will stay here again. Maybe if other options weren't available we would consider it.

“decent is the word”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

The first time we’ve been to Milwaukee was on our tour around Lake Michigan in 2010. We really didn’t give it much thought, perceiving it as not much more than the final stop on our way back to Chicago. However, when we left the car for a walk downtown, along the river and onwards to the lake front, we realized that we drastically underrated this city. Making up for our mistake we stayed over for two nights this year, including a very pleasant and educating visit to the Art Museum and, as a counterweight of sorts, the Harley Davidson Museum.
We chose the BW Towne Inn mainly because of its location, especially since “walking distance” means a lot to us when exploring cities. Another reason was that the rate included a (continental) breakfast. We prefer to leave for the day with the breakfast-question already answered. Last but not least, with $85 per night for a room with two queens in late June the rate was surprisingly low. One must know though that we booked early, almost 10 months in advance. When we checked again closer to our travel dates the rate doubled. Finally, parking wasn’t a problem either, with every second building downtown being a parking garage, or so it seemed.

The Towne Inn met our expectations. We’d say that “decent” is the word that describes it the best. Check-in and -out were swift and friendly, there was nothing wrong with the room, the place was clean, we had a good night sleep, the breakfast selection and quality was sufficient, all in all we felt at ease with this place. That was what we were hoping for, that was what we experienced. Mission accomplished!

“OK value, but somewhat seedy. Not H-D motorcycle "Rider-Friendly".”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

We specifically booked this Milwaukee hotel because of its proximity to both the Harley-Davidson Museum and Miller Park, and because four of us were travelling there on four motorcycles loaded with gear for a 13-day trip. The property was listed as being part of Harley-Davidson's Best Western Rider-Friendly program, where "Rider-Friendly® properties provide unique services to rider enthusiasts including, but not limited to, a clean wipe-down towel at check-in and a cleaning station for cleaning off the day’s grime from your bike". Even taking into account that this hotel is smack in the middle of Downtown Milwaukee (which is awesome, by the way!), there was nothing rider-friendly about this place. On-street check-in parking is limited to a loading zone in front of the next building and metered spaces (if available). Overnight parking is in a multi-level parking garage a half-block away (for $12.00/night, cash, no motorcycle rate). If there was a place to wipe down or wash our bikes, we were not advised of it by the desk clerk. (He knew we were on bikes because I set my helmet on the counter during check-in.) I did look through a locked gate in a small alley next to the hotel where I saw a hose laying on the ground next to the dumpster. Was this the "cleaning station"? In all, very inconvenient for the rider.
Price paid for the room was fair for what we got once we parked the bikes, especially in a downtown area in a large city. It is an older hotel in need of updates in the lobby and entrance areas, but the rooms weren't bad. Breakfast area (in basement) was somewhat seedy; food not as good as in some hotel chains in same class.
Desk clerk at check-in did give us an alternate evening route to Miller Park which worked well, so one atta boy is due there.

First off thank you for making Milwaukee a stop on your bike trip! Harley Davidson is a significant part of our history, culture and tourism. I am glad the hotel could provide you a comfortable room during your visit. It is true that we are in the middle of downtown Milwaukee and within walking distance to many of the major area attraction. That does limit us somewhat to the amenities we can offer. We do allow guest to park their bike in front of the hotel and our security watches over them and the cleaning area is secured. thank you for your response and we will strive to improve our services.
