“restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

One of our favorite restaurants in milwaukee, I always feel like I am at a 5 star restaurant with
the ample staff. I like the fact that the menu changes from time to time and the food is fantastic, my water glass is never empty and the hot rolls are a added treat. The atmosphere
is romantic and cozy making it a very enjoyable evening for my husband and I.

Thank you for your comments relating to our Hotel's restaurant, The Anchorage! They are very appreciated!

The Anchorage recently completed an enhancement project to give it a more fresh, contemporary look. We also introduced new menus for lunch and dinner service as well to accent the new decor.

And with over a proud 35-year-plus history of dining excellence in the area, I am glad that you and your husband were able to enjoy it all! The Anchorage is one of the many special features and amenities that does set the Hilton Milwaukee River apart as a unique destination!

I do look forward to welcoming you back for another great dining experience!

Thanks for your online comments and review of your trips to both our Hilton Milwaukee River hotel, as well as your experiences in our unique restaurant, The Anchorage! Very appreciated!

I'm glad that your business travels are made a bit better by your visits here! Our location along the Milwaukee River does create some wonderful views, especially from The Anchorage. (And even better ones once the warm weather comes and we can open our Patio!)

And, as we continue with enhancement projects at the Hotel (currently wallpaper and carpeting in our guestroom hallways), we hope that your future Milwaukee visits will bring you back here!

“Run down and not up to par with other Hiltons”

This seems like an older hotel desperately in need of some updating. I read the other reviews, along with the manager's responses, and it seems that the hotel has recently been renovated. If that is the case, I would hate to see the hotel prior to the updates. Check in was a bit odd - the receptionist was either interviewing a young man for a job or flrting with him while we were trying to get our room. She kept talking to him rather than finishing up with us. There were some open cans of soda and empty cups on tables in the lobby and by the elevator along with trash on the floor. The wallpaper was peeling and there were heavy scuff marks on the walls. When we got to the fourth floor, we were greated by the sound of an apparent party going on in one of the rooms at around 10:30 PM. The door to the room was wide open. Room 420's sign was apparently missing so it had been replaced with a piece of paper with the numbers printed on it. Our room was nothing special and the furnishings seemed like they were last updated in the 80s. Since my husband is a diamond preferred Hilton member, we got free breakfast at the restaurant. I had a made to order omelet with some hash browns. They were both so oily that I could not finish them. We have stayed at lots of Hiltons across the country and I really can't believe that this one hasn't been improved upon, even if that means gutting it and starting fresh. Im really not trying to be rude or demeaning here, but honestly, I would not recommend this hotel or ever stay here again.

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay at our Hotel!

It did appear that you had mixed feelings of your stay, being critical on certain items. I can assure you, though, that our staff works hard to present the best possible levels of service, image, and comfort.

Last summer, the Hilton Milwaukee River as well as The Anchorage embarked on a project designed to enhance both our Hotel and our Restaurant. Some of these changes have been much more dramatic and immediately visible, while others more subtle and behind-the-scenes. To date, we have:

* Upgraded our televisions to 37-inch flat screen models
* Completely refurbished our restaurant, The Anchorage
* Upgraded our Lobby and Banquet furniture
* Upgraded our outdoor Patio that overlooks the Milwaukee River
* Upgraded our guestroom bedding, linens, shower curtains/rods, towels, and in-room toiletries
* Re-designed our menus in The Anchorage to reflect a rich tradition of seafood selections while incorporating new cuisine
* Implemented a complimentary weekday Happy Hour Hors D’Oeuvres reception

Future projects, which begin this month, will include replacing the carpeting and wallpaper in our guestroom and public corridors, painting and varnishing, enhancing our complimentary high-speed wireless internet system, and adding in-room safes to our guestrooms to name a few.

To date, we have received numerous, complimentary comments of our status/service/amenities/restaurant, and apologize if you felt you received less.

I do look forward to welcoming you back to our Hotel for any future Milwaukee-area visit!
(Especially with further changes coming!)

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance!

“A great hotel bar to come in for a drink”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

My friends and I live in the Milwaukee area and go to the "Anchorage" bar at the HIlton for drinks after our Thursday night activity. One big attraction is Brian, the bartender. He knows us to be sure. But I like to watch him work the room making certain everyone has a drink, food, and a good word. If you are alone at that bar, Brian will find out where you come from and attend to you.

Tragically, the crackers and soft cheese they used to have at the bar were replaced with garlic bar mix. That was a disappointment. Maybe a compromise would be to serve the similar honey flavor bar mix, which is infinitely better.

Thank you for your comments, as you join a growing fan base of our bartender, Brian! I'm glad you appreciate his efforts!

We all work very hard to give guests of The Anchorage, as well as for the Hotel, a wonderful experience for your dinner and cocktail outings.

Regarding the crackers and cheese spread that we used to place at the bar?

Yes, it was a staple for many years. But we now offer complimentary hors d'oeuvres from 5:30pm to 6:30pm Mondays through Fridays in its place. Thus far, being able to sample Crab Rangoon, Swedish Meatballs, Buffalo Wings, and Salmon Pate has been far more popular than just simple cheese spread. We also have new menus in place, including those for snacks and hors d'oeuvres, that accent the bar services.

I look forward to welcoming you back to The Anchorage in the near future! Please follow us also on “Facebook” for further updates and specials as well! We have a listing for both the Hilton Milwaukee River and The Anchorage on this site.

“Clean, Friendly, Suburban Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Overlooking the Milwaukee River, this hotel is well run with a friendly staff. Just north of the heart of Milwaukee, the hotel has easy access to major roads leading to downtown, yet is in a quiet area with no road noise. The room was kept clean during our 5 night stay and the lobby lounge offers coffee around the fireplace. The restaurant offers a full menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This hotel is definitely worth cconsidering and is much more economical than the downtown hotels.

Thank you so very much for your comments here on “Trip Advisor” regarding your recent stay with us!

I'm glad to read about your positive comments on both our Hotel and restaurant, The Anchorage, as well as the comments on our staff. They all work hard to give our guests a great hotel and/or dining experience!

Part of that involves a staff that has been with the property for many years! So they are able to create a welcoming and friendly environment, being proud to be a part of a very unique hotel and restaurant setting.

We look forward to welcoming you back for a future Milwaukee-area trip!
