“Would never stay anywhere else when in Mauston, Not even with family!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2011

When a hotel can keep it's employees long enough for them to actually remember their guests names, you KNOW it's a good place to be! We've stayed at Country Inns across the country if for no other reason than the great experiences we've had in Mauston's location. The rooms are always clean and odor-free, the employees are friendly and helpful and the amenenties are top-knotch, from the cute little gift-shop area to the wonderfully relaxing hot tub and pool. Sometimes sound travels too easily in this modular-built hotel, but it can only be as quiet as it's patrons! I was sad to see the neighboring Country Kitchen Restaurant leave, but having a wonderful, daily Continental Breakfast in-hotel helps to soothe the morning munchies. Arranging reservations online is a snap and has easily earned us enough points to stay free during our next family visit (which I do hope is soon!). Room 119, as usual, here we come!

Not a lot going on in this town so not many hotel choices. This place definitely served its purpose. Clean, friendly staff, free breakfast. You could certainly do worse. If traveling for business, be aware that the wireless is almost unusable... very poor connection.

“Average at best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

I was in a room off the pool. The humidity was so bad from the pool that we could not escape the moisture. Papers were saturated, it was that bad. Also, in the morning, the sausage and eggs you get are cold from the fridge with instructions on how to use the microwave to warm things back up. I know that this is probably always the case, but you doing it yourself just makes it a little worse. Staff was great, location is good for those traveling through the area. The area itself has nothing to offer.

“YUCK!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2010

We travel often and will many times stay in Country Inns and Suites as they typically are clean and quiet. We were very disappointed in the Country Inn in Mauston. The AC in the lobby seemed to not be working as it was extremely hot and the workers behind the check-in desk had fans blowing on them. Upon arriving in our room (I had reserved a room with 2 queen beds), it smelled like cigarette smoke and I had asked for a non-smoking room. When I called down to inquire if I was in a non-smoking room, I was told the entire property was non-smoking. I asked for a different room and was given the one that was left, a handicap-accessible room with one bed and a sleeper sofa. The room was extremely small, it felt horribly damp, and smelled strongly of cleaners/air freshners. The water pressure in the shower was like a trickle. The sleeper sofa was very uncomfortable, the bed sheet had a rip in it, and the blanket had stains on it. YUCK! Definitely will NOT be staying here again.

“Not a Good Experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2009

We travel with our dog and chose this hotel because they are pet friendly. It is one of the first lines in their room description on their website. Online I booked a king non-smoking room. In the comments box I informed them that I was bringing our dog. I printed the confirmation and brought it along. The comment box was on this print out. When we arrived at the hotel they told us they did not know we were bringing our dog and we could not have a king room. They would not even look at the printout I brought. We were given a double queen which we were disappointed about , but okay with it. Our room ended up being right next to the lobby ( about 20 feet from the lobby desk). One wall lined the lobby . The windows looked right out to the check in parking area. As soon as we entered , we turned around and asked for a different room. At first they said we could have one down the other hallway, but that it was next to the icemaker and would also be noisy. We wanted it anyway and then they said we could not have it...it was taken. They offered us one on the second floor(no elevator). We said okay. Again they said we could not have it . It too was already taken. They then told us they had no more pet rooms. We ended up with our original room. At this point we had no alternatives. Needless to say, we heard people coming and going as they registered and as they left. The room itself was the smallest hotel room I have ever been in. It reeked of air freshener or cleaning agents. The bathroom was so small you could hardly turn around in it and the tub/shower was smaller than any I have ever seen. It also had black mold growing in a number of spots they had tried to conceal by caulking over it. The vanity was located ousdide of the bathroom at the entry to the room. It felt very damp in the room and we could not figure out why. After a few hours of having the windows open the odor dissipated only to be replaced by a strong smell of mold. This hotel is in dire need of updating. The beds were very uncomfortable. The towels thin and dinghy. The breakfast room was quite small. They did serve waffles, but could not get near the waffle maker. The small area where the food was located was very congested with only a few people in it. I would like to say something nice about this hotel, but I can't think of anything.
