We arrived @ this hotel on a Tuesday after a very long two day drive for business. On arrival the lobby seemed clean and pleasant. We checked in and again specifically requested a no smoking room. ( We had reserved this room well in advance) I am very sensitive to cigarette smoke. Understanding that I did check the local by laws regarding their no smoking laws before we left out on our travels.
We stayed on the first floor, which are designated all no smoking with the exception of two room and the very end of the hall near the exit.
Before we even got to our room all you could smell was cigarette smoke as soon as you left the lobby. The smell was so bad that we had to open the window and air the room out. We then went to the dollar store and purchased candles and Febreeze to help with the horrible smell.
We stayed for 3 nights. Every night I would take the bedspread off and drape it over the door to block out the smoke that was coming in. Oh yes the smoke was so thick in the halls you could see it. We did not complain as we feared some kind of reaction from those who were smoking in their,"no smoking" rooms.
The hot tub was broken but the pool area was nice. The hotel was going through renovations, the paint smell was better than the smoke smell!
I even witnessed a couple checking in, I was sitting in the lobby, that requested a "smoking room" I was shocked when the person working the desk send them right into a room that had a sign that clearly read "no smoking" Clearly no one cared about the rules/laws!!!!
The cleaning staff did the bare minimum when they cleaned our room. I own my own cleaning business so I do have pretty high standards. But the entire 4 days we were there not one table surface got wiped down, I did this myself. We know they didn't clean them because the little coffee spills and basic cup rings were still highley visable. Even the bathroom counter and sink did not get wiped as we could still see the beverage stains in the sink from when we rinsed our cups and glasses in the morning.
Also the room didn't get vacuumed. I don't know about everyday but I do know on the last day of our stay I came back to our room and there was still chip crumbs on the floor, very visable. Again we didn't complain...we figured at this point it would not have made a difference anyway. I am sure the little teenage girl working the front desk in the evening wouldn't have done anything as she was more concerned with hanging out with her boyfriend in the lobby on the couch watching tv and playing on her lap top computer.
Maybe after the renovations are done to this hotel it may be a better place to stay but as of now I would never return to it.
Quick not Marshfield is a nice town and the people were very friendly.
