We checked in for a Saturday night to Sunday on Oct 22-23, 2011. As some folks have said, the property is a little dated. However, the location is literally right across the street from Lake Geneva. We took a boat ride on Saturday from the convenient "Harbor" which is right across the street. The boat ticket had a coupon on the back for $3 off pizza at Gino's East, which was conveniently located in our hotel.

Our room had a fridge, so we stored our leftover pizza. We rented a DVD for a mere $1.99 and watched a great movie in our room before hitting the hay. All in all, it was a nice weekend for enjoying the lovely fall colors around the area.

The Baker House hotel next store looked intriguing, with some kind of cocktail hour going on there on Saturday eventing. Next time, we might drop in over there and partake of the festivities. Additionally, we may try booking this hotel during the summer to take full advantage of the location.

We're big swimmers and found it exciting that there was a beach across the street! It would be great to rent a boat (right across the street) in the warm weather and cruise the lake, swimming wherever we want. The hotel has both an indoor and outdoor pool. Obviously, the outdoor one was closed at this time of year. But, this hotel had everything we'd be looking for in the warm summer months.

I will definitely be requesting a balcony room in the summer. In fact, even this Saturday, it would have been nice to have a cocktail on our balcony and watch the sun set. However, we were told that the only rooms available were the parking lot view. When we had dinner at Gino's East, they gave us a window seat. So, we watched the sun set as we had cocktails and pizza, which was fine.

One ironic item was that the bedroom furniture was the exact same furniture as what we have at home! It's the light wood style from the TV show "Everyone Loves Raymond." So, we LITERALLY felt right at home! Ha! I'll post some pictures later in the week. But, if you're going up there for fall colors, you better hurry. We were right on the cusp. Strong winds had blown off a lot of the leaves, but it was still very pretty.

Overall, a good weekend.

Great Price, Good place to stay in Lake Geneva, You must eat at Baker house next door, fun and more fun. Older hotel but comfy soft beds. Quiet hotel not like timbersridge or fake like lake geneva inn. Get a beautiful lake view room, sooo enjoyable.You can walk everywhere in town.

This motel used to be Best Western Harbor Shores but is now just Harbor Shores. It has a great location across the street from Lake Geneva; walking distance to Starbucks and the downtown shopping area. Our room was clean and comfortable and had a studio kitchen with a small refrigerator, microwave and a cabinet with dishes. Complimentary breakfast in a breakfast room off of the lobby area included hard-boiled eggs, oatmeal, toast, bagels, juice, a waffle machine and coffee.The lobby is nicely decorated. We didn't use the pool or work-out room but have in the past and they are adequate. I was part of a group of about 25 ladies at a scrapbooking workshop on the lobby level. We were in a very large meeting room all day and evening which was clean, well-lit and spacious. The closest restroom was the restroom by the entrance to Gino's East Restaurant which is part of the hotel. My complaint is about the restroom: on Saturday, it looked a little dirty and smelled bad but all of used it as it was close. On Sunday morning, I came down at 6 a.m. to scrapbook; when I went to the restroom about 8:30 a.m., it was extra-smelly, dirty and there was not a scrap of toilet paper. Also, someone had put paper towels in one of the toilets. I reported this to the front desk and was told that the staff from Gino's East cleaned that bathroom and they weren't in yet. About an hour later, I checked the restroom and there was toilet paper but it was still dirty. To me, this is not acceptable, especially when the restaurant is part of the hotel and it's the main restroom for people using the large meeting room. Otherwise, we had a nice stay there.

This hotel is in a great location, especially if you want to check out the path around the lake or want a great view of the lake. If you're traveling with small children, though, I'd be sure to ask for a room without a balcony. I think the building was constructed in the 1960s before building codes required the railings to be a certain width so a small child's head can't fit through. Our son, not quite two, would have fallen through very easily if we weren't constantly with him. And of course he wanted to stand out there as much as possibly to see all the boats. The hotel should consider putting up plexiglass on the railings so as not to obstruct the view but make those rooms safer. The rooms themselves could use some updating, especially the bathrooms, but it wasn't terrible. The outdoor pool looked nice but we didn't have much time to use it.
