I stayed at the La Crosse America’s Best on 8-6-2010 and 8-7-2010, in room 211. I has very displeased with the hotel for a number of reasons.

Apparently, the room hadn’t been used in some time, which was evident by the thick coating of dust accumulated on the night stand and headboards. I left a message for the staff by writing it in dust. There were no chairs in the room, no clock, no clock radio so I could set an alarm, and the phone, which was actually from the 1970's, was not in working order. I had a little dog with me, and she found some very stale and moldy bread on the floor from a previous tenant. Checking further to rid the floor of future dog snacks, I was appalled at the amount of debris along the floorboards. The lighting was very bad, electrical sockets overloaded, and only one of the bedside lights had a bulb in it. Lastly, the deadbolt was inoperable! I realize this is a budget property, and that is why the beds and pillows were so substandard, but it is the safety and cleanliness issue which I find unacceptable, at any price. I have never left a hotel cleaner than when I found it until Sunday morning, when I couldn’t get out of there fast enough.

I stayed here because I got a good deal on the rate. I stayed 4 nights in a room on the first floor. Unfortunately, the only view out the window was into the lobby. I could not have my curtains open for fear of someone watching my everymove. To use the free internet access I had to sit outside in the courtyard. It is pleasant but it does rain sometimes and I need the internet for the class I am taking. The breakfast includes make your own waffles but it takes 10 minutes, no exageration, to fill your cup with the batter from the dispenser so that you can make your waffle. Other choices are white or wheat toast, oatmeal, cherrios or raisin bran, mini doughnuts, juice, milk, coffee. The manager is only available during 7am to 4 pm. No night manager or help when things go wrong, only the teenage girl at the desk.

Very friendly staff, helpful and accomodating!! Told me of a great restaurant. Staff was the best, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

We booked the mini suite, 3 dbl beds, for myself and 2 grown children. The mattresses were very poor used condition. The box springs were very stained. The sheets appeared to be clean but dingy yellow. The mattress pad had not been washed in a while. However the maids had the floors clean and the bathroom was clean. It appears they did the best they could.
It was late and we were tired so we stayed rather than lose our deposit. Breakfast was adaquate, attended to by a somewhat surly employee. If you needed something she could be summoned from the "employee smoker table" just out side the window. We will not recommend this place. We will spend a few extra $ and try for someplace else.
