“The Nicest Resort Hotel in Wisconsin and One of the Best Anywhere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

The American Club is an old line luxury hotel where the facilities and staff are exceptional. The village of Kohler, in which it is located, is a sweet little company town and also quite traditional. Indeed, the American Club is itself an offshoot of the Kohler Company and has a fascinating history in its own right. The hotel has a number of fine restaurants, a lovely spa associated with it and terrific recreation facilities (including two PGA quality golf courses). The staff are warm, attentive and practically Old World in their service. If you'd like to find a place that offers complimentary afternoon tea, you'll enjoy the American Club. Finally, it's worth noting that it offers special rates some weekend days in Winter when the cost is 50-70% of rack rate!

“A 5 Star Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This is the 4th time my husband and I have travelled to the American Club. It is an easy drive from Chicago (2 hours or less) so it is a great get away for a weekend. The staff is wonderful, check in and check out easy and they can almost anticipate your every wish before you know you need something. The rooms are all well appointed and the bathrooms showcase the Kohler line of products. Toiletries in the bathroom are from their spa - there is no need to bring your own blowdryer as there is one in the vanity. There is a room safe in the closet as well as a flat screen tv in the armoire. Our package included breakfast (even the fabulous Sunday brunch in the Wisconsin room). We had dinner on Friday night in The Horse & Plow which has the best bloody mary's served with a beer chaser. My husband loves their cheese curds! Saturday night we went to Cuchina (the Italian restaurant) down the road. There was a happy hour wine/cheese/vegetable tray on late Saturday afternoon that was open to all guests. The fireplace was kept ablaze in library and they even had a bonfire outside by the gazebo. This is a very relaxing high class inn. I must admit I did not use the spa during this visit but as with everything else in this hotel I am sure it is still wonderful.

“Old English housekeeping and service nice touch!!”

We stayed here for half off the normal cost. Normally its very expensive to stay here but with this discount, very reasonable and preferred over all other hotels in kohler! by far! first: its convenient location and ample parking. Its right above the spa, perfect for those like us getting services there! the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The decorations reminded me of English pub/ bed and breakfast charm. The turn down service was a very thoughtful, delightful touch! a great benefit to the cost of the room is the inclusion of continental breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening hoderves: all of which were delicious and plentiful! recommended!!

“Tremendous Thanksgiving”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I read all the reviews and had mixed feelings about staying here. I wasn't sure how we were going to be treated but from the moment we drove up to valet the car to the time we checked out, it was simply amazing. Valet took our luggage and the car promptly. We were allowed to check in early and were originally given a room in the West wing with instructions on how to find the room (the place is huge!),but when the front desk agent heard me ask my 82 year old mother if she could walk that far, without missing a beat the agent asked if we would like something closer and moved us to the 1st room right off the lobby. What a big difference that made! The American Club is a classic, traditional resort where one goes for peace and quiet. If you are looking for lots of activity and a go, go, go atmosphere this is not the place, although there is plenty to do! We did not utilize the spa, but we did visit the Kohler Art Museum (very enjoyable). You HAVE to check out the tiles in the restrooms! We visited the Kohler Design Center with the "great wall of china", had a very tasty & relaxing lunch at Black Wolf Run with it's log cabin decor overlooking the beautiful golf course and enjoyed complimentary coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon in the Greenhouse on the grounds, which is accessable without ever having to go outside and brave the cold! We ran out of time before we could experience a tour of the Waelderhaus and the River Wildlife Wilderness Preserve, so yes, there is plenty to do in a relaxed atmosphere. As for the accomodations, we chose a Deluxe room with the additional sitting area. The Ann Sacks tiles in the bath area were beautiful as were the Kohler fixtures. What an amazing shower! I was VERY impressed with the housekeeping staff. They even wound up my cell phone charger cord when they cleaned the room, yet we never seemed to see them in the hallways etc. They were invisible but did an amazing job. We had ice in the extra sink keeping our soda and bottled water cold, and they covered it with a towel to keep it cold! All the housekeeping little touches were Class A. The shuttle service is a very nice touch and drivers were courteous and prompt as well as knowledgable. Thanksgiving dinner in the Wisconsin Room was one of the best meals I have had in a long time and I live in a town (Las Vegas) that has some of the most amazing & famous Chefs around. It was so pleasant, well done and full of fantastic flavors that some of my family made their Christmas reservations for the Wisconsin Room also. The selection of cuisine was highly enjoyable and plentiful, from traditional roast turkey to Arctic Char! And, even tho it was a very busy day for the restaurant, the staff never made you feel rushed. We had a very relaxing, enjoyable evening dinner with drinks in the Library beforehand with a bartender that was very kind and carried our drinks for us since he noticed the elderly among us. I explored the whole hotel and the grounds and everyone was very accomodating. The concierge was extremely busy, but took time with everyone that approached her, never losing her cool even when there was a long line. The holiday lighting was beautiful.

Room Tip: Since The American Club is a large hotel, you may want to ask for a room close to the lobby. We had...

“Stayed here a couple of times...”

There is no question that the town of Kohler is like a journey back in time. The American Club is an icon and impressive.

However, it is very pricy and I am not sure a great value for the $$. This does not in any way degrade the excellent service and very attentive staff there.

I would recommend the American Club, just know going in it is expensive.
