I read all the reviews and had mixed feelings about staying here. I wasn't sure how we were going to be treated but from the moment we drove up to valet the car to the time we checked out, it was simply amazing. Valet took our luggage and the car promptly. We were allowed to check in early and were originally given a room in the West wing with instructions on how to find the room (the place is huge!),but when the front desk agent heard me ask my 82 year old mother if she could walk that far, without missing a beat the agent asked if we would like something closer and moved us to the 1st room right off the lobby. What a big difference that made! The American Club is a classic, traditional resort where one goes for peace and quiet. If you are looking for lots of activity and a go, go, go atmosphere this is not the place, although there is plenty to do! We did not utilize the spa, but we did visit the Kohler Art Museum (very enjoyable). You HAVE to check out the tiles in the restrooms! We visited the Kohler Design Center with the "great wall of china", had a very tasty & relaxing lunch at Black Wolf Run with it's log cabin decor overlooking the beautiful golf course and enjoyed complimentary coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon in the Greenhouse on the grounds, which is accessable without ever having to go outside and brave the cold! We ran out of time before we could experience a tour of the Waelderhaus and the River Wildlife Wilderness Preserve, so yes, there is plenty to do in a relaxed atmosphere. As for the accomodations, we chose a Deluxe room with the additional sitting area. The Ann Sacks tiles in the bath area were beautiful as were the Kohler fixtures. What an amazing shower! I was VERY impressed with the housekeeping staff. They even wound up my cell phone charger cord when they cleaned the room, yet we never seemed to see them in the hallways etc. They were invisible but did an amazing job. We had ice in the extra sink keeping our soda and bottled water cold, and they covered it with a towel to keep it cold! All the housekeeping little touches were Class A. The shuttle service is a very nice touch and drivers were courteous and prompt as well as knowledgable. Thanksgiving dinner in the Wisconsin Room was one of the best meals I have had in a long time and I live in a town (Las Vegas) that has some of the most amazing & famous Chefs around. It was so pleasant, well done and full of fantastic flavors that some of my family made their Christmas reservations for the Wisconsin Room also. The selection of cuisine was highly enjoyable and plentiful, from traditional roast turkey to Arctic Char! And, even tho it was a very busy day for the restaurant, the staff never made you feel rushed. We had a very relaxing, enjoyable evening dinner with drinks in the Library beforehand with a bartender that was very kind and carried our drinks for us since he noticed the elderly among us. I explored the whole hotel and the grounds and everyone was very accomodating. The concierge was extremely busy, but took time with everyone that approached her, never losing her cool even when there was a long line. The holiday lighting was beautiful.
Room Tip: Since The American Club is a large hotel, you may want to ask for a room close to the lobby. We had...
