My parents and my partner and I stayed one night at the Homestead Studio Suites in Brookfield while attending the WI State Fair. We have stayed in this area for over 10 years, and this year we have had a lot going on and tried to find a hotel that would not break the bank. BIG MISTAKE! Our experience at the Homestead Suites was TERRIBLE from the moment my dad and I went to check-in.
Check-in time is 3pm. We arrived at the hotel (I use that term lightly) around 1:45pm to see if our rooms were ready. My parents had a king-sized room reserved, and my partner and I also had a king-sized room reserved. As we walked in, my dad had the print out of our reservation in his hand, and we approached the front desk. The young lady at the desk, Tanya I believe, chatted with a creepy man who appeared to be a hotel guest. We waited for the conversation to end; however, upon seeing the reservation paper in my dad's hand, this same young lady immediately said, "Oh, check-in isn't until 3pm. We do not have any rooms ready at this time. Everything is booked up." We were never greeted or asked how we were doing, which I found to be completely rude, unprofessional, and contrary to what the hospitality industry is all about. My dad and I walked back out to the car with an already sour taste in our mouths for this hotel.
We came back at 2:55pm to see if we could check into our rooms. This time we approached the front desk and the same creepy man was STILL standing in front of the desk talking to the front desk worker (this time a different young lady). A long story short, we were checked-in, gave the lady our credit card, and when we went to sign the paperwork I looked and found that we had only been charged for ONE queen-sized bedroom. As you remember, our reservation was for TWO king-sized bedrooms. The young lady at the front desk said she only thought we had one queen-sized room, got very confused, and had to phone the housekeeping person to see if there were king rooms ready. We showed our paperwork to “prove” that we did in fact have two king rooms reserved. This was absolutely ridiculous! With five minutes before check-in time, why is this staff scrambling around to see if rooms are ready or available?!? This young lady was at least pleasant; however, the creepy dude talking to her (same guy) was using profanity and again made for an unprofessional exchange. Kick the dude out or at least tell him to keep quiet during a transaction with guests!
I will keep this simple: the rooms are not worth the cheap price you pay for them. DISGUSTING! I have stayed in many “budget” motels in my day, and I have also stayed in some very upscale hotels. The Homestead Suites ranks at the very bottom of the heap! The bed was absolutely terrible. It was hard, creaked when you sat on it, and the mattress pad didn’t even fit on the bed (we had a king bed and it looked like the staff had put a double-sized mattress pad on). When I lifted up the sheets to try to adjust the mattress pad, the mattress had a huge yellow stain on it (urine?). I was VERY disgusted!
The room was dusty, the carpet was okay, but there were crumbs and such in corners and along the baseboards. The kitchenette and refrigerator were clean, but we really had no use for this. The A/C worked really well, which was one good thing about this room. The bathroom (pics attached) was disgusting! There was no shower curtain liner, so I had to just put the shower curtain inside the tub so water didn’t spill everywhere on the floor. The shower curtain smelled, was stained with god knows what, and the corners of the tub were ridden with mold (see pic). There was a rubber bath mat hanging across the tub, and when I lifted it off to place it aside, it was also corroded with mold (see pic).
The morning of our checkout (11am), I woke up at 6:45am. I could not sleep anymore in that bed. I had a neck and back ache. We packed up and tried to be out of the room before 9am. I would have a better night sleeping out in the car, and I would not have dropped $80. Next year when we attend the WI State Fair, as we do each year, we will definitely NOT stay at the Homestead Suites. I prefer spending more money and staying at a Marriott or Doubletree.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
P.S. When we checked out the next morning, the same creepy man was standing at the front desk wearing the same clothes from the previous night. If guests rent the rooms for an extended amount of time, I understand it’s important to build a rapport with them, but they also need to know that loitering at the front desk is perhaps a bad habit.
