“Crazy camp owners”

Despite the reviews I've read We decided to go. We were arriving on a sunday afternoon and leaving Tuesday morning. We stayed in the fishy fishy cabin, very nice and a little more privacy. The owner ( Rose ) was just noisy wanted to know everything and taunted our every move. They were on their golf carts going up down every hour or so making little comments here and there and stared a lot. Early monday moring b4 any of us were up. They were walking around the cabin w/ 2 other staff and stood outside our bedroom window talking for over an hour and pointing fingers back at us. We spent all our day time away from the camp and only slept there so I don't know what the problem is. We felt as if we being watched, which we were and would be just scold for a wrong movement. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The management is terrible. Do not go there. Take ur money and camping fun somewhere else! very noisy and very bad owners, who manages and runs the place by themselves.

“Terrible Management- Not Pet Friendly”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2010

We first camped at this place in May 2009. This is very far/ remotely located from Chicago. So despite the long drive we gathered the energy to go. The first time we visited in 2009 we were impressed. We visted with kids, pets etc.

Looks like they changed management. This time the management kept driving in carts every hr and kept staring and asking us questions. It felt as though we were in a catholic school hostel. They gave us a very hard time on pets. My dog is very well behaved docile lab and they would not let us keep the dog off leash in the campsite/ on the river banks/ beach/ walks. We had to hear a lecture on pet policy on how they will not allow us to sit on the beach with our dogs even with the leash on. They allow pets on the beach between 7- 9 AM on a leash but when it is a minute past 9:00 they will yell at you. It is a very noisy place with a lot of drunk crowd bothering you. A group of drunk women kept troubling us, they were obessed with our pet. They kept calling it Charlie and would'nt let go.

Our dogs are our children, I cannot waste a 4 hr drive, a weekend and money on a place that is very nasty to us.

“I would recommend and go again.”

I read the reviews down below before camping at Lost Falls and was skeptical but did not regret the stay. Actually thought this was a great, hidden away as they should be, campground. As far as the owners, they do drive around on thier golf carts but I thought they were very freindly. Tubing is very enjoyable, not very deep but sandy bottom the whole way, you don't need shoes or sandals. With five of us and $10 person, I could have saved $100 on the two days of tubing by bring own floatation device, life jacket and found someone to give a ride up river 2.5 miles. Last but not least, don't forget to check out the waterfalls in the woods "Lost Falls" down and across Sunnyvale Road form the campground.

“Had Fun!”

We were also worried about the previous reviews. We were traveling with other families and we get kind of loud after the kids go to bed but I am happy to say, we did not have any problems. This is a small campground with very nice looking cottages near the camping sites. The beach is awesome and my dog loved doggie dip hours. I probably won't bring my dog next time because you have to give a $25 pet deposit and sign a form with their dog rules. While we love doggie dip hours, we couldn't bring our dog to the beach any other time of day and they did drive by in a cart to check when I walked my dog down to the beach. The playground was satisfactory, kids had fun, the 1-2 block walk to the 5 foot tall falls was worth it - great photos & kids played under it. The sites were good sized, and the price was reasonable. We did the 1 hour $25 canoe trip which was perfect for all our young kids & they allowed my dog to come! (great trip for families - lots of sandbars - wide & slow river - usually shallow)

  • Liked — canoeing & tubing options
  • Disliked — strict on pet rules

“loved it”

We were worried about staying here after reading the reviews, but we decided to stay for 1 night on our way up to Bear lake.
We experienced no problems here whatsoever. There were 2 adults and 3 teenagers in our party and we all had a great time.
we hired some kayaks and we taken to a spot up river to paddle down from.We had the whole river to ourselves.
This was one of the friendliest sites we stayed on during our RV adventure.
It is very quiet here and we noticed sound did travel.I myself told our teenagers to quieten down so as not to disturb other people. It looked a great place to camp at.The pitches were right by the river in the forest.(Mosquito heaven)
