My husband and I wanted a quick trip for Labor Day weekend so chose Baraboo - 90 minutes from Milwaukee. We stayed at the Gollmar Guest House for three nights in the Isabelle Room. Sharon and Jon, the proprietors, were extremely friendly and accomodating-they were great. Sharon's gorgeous quilts were all over the house, including on the beds. They had a shared area for the guests with a small refrigerator and micorowave as well as tea, coffee, popcorn. There is a shared parlor upstairs where all guests can read, listen to music, watch TV , play chess, etc. There is a deck to the outside. The house was very clean and user friendly but not a hotel. (That was the idea). There is no hair dryer, shampoo, or big parking lot on a busy thoroughfare. There are, however, windows that open and birds that sing. You can smell the breakfast as it wafts up the stairs. Sharon knocks herself out for breakfast - we never needed lunch! Sharon and Jon say they don't, but I think they wait up for their guests. If you do not care for a whirlpool, I suggest the Meadow Room - more bathroom floor space and an easier to use closet. Isabelle Room, does however, has a great view of their yard. We did not see the Viola Room as it was occupied. (They do have air conditioning but we did not need it this weekend).

We met wonderful Russian guests during our stay. They have guests from all over the world in this quiet neighborhood a couple blocks from the square. Activities: We really enjoyed the Aldo Leopold Center, International Crane Center, Ringling Theater on the square, the Coffee Bean just off the square. Monks on the square is a bar/grill that is NUTS for the Badgers. The Grainery is a great whole food store. It is a great, intelligent little town an hour form Madison. Gollmar was a great stay. We look forward to returning-my husband wants to go fly fishing with enthusiast, Jon-proprietor.

We always stay at a B&B when we travel. The Gollmar house was THE BEST B&B we have EVER been to! It was clean, excellent decorated, charming, gorgeous and the innkeepers (Jon and Sharon) were EXCELLENT! It was the best breakfast we have ever eaten - and so much food! Sharon met us at the curb when we arrived - showed us around the house - and asked if we had dietary concerns for breakfast. We slept well - the accomodations in our room were fabulous - even a little stocked kitchen in the hallway! Sharon prepared magnificent breakfasts all three mornings we were there! ABSOLUTELY OUT OF THIS WORLD! Jon and Sharon helped us with our planning for the day - and even let us borrow their phone book and internet. There are not enough words to describe these special innkeepers and their committment to guest satisfaction! They are warm and inviting! Would stay there again and again! ENJOY your stay! And please give Jon and Sharon our best! :)

The host of this quaint BnB in Baraboo bent over backwards to make us feel welcome. We called to let them know when we could be expected and she was waiting for us on the porch. She greeted us warmly gave us a quick tour of the property and asked us if we had a breakfast preference. We were the only guests on this particular weekend and she asked if the usual 9 am breakfast was okay or if we wanted it at a different time due to us having an event to attend at 11. She served breakfast promptly at 9. The table was set elegantly, water, coffee and juice available. Fresh fruit salad....warm bread and muffins awaited us...followed by a cheese omelet and sausages and that was followed by a fantastic stuffed french toast. The room was wonderful, the fireplace and 2 person whirlpool made what should have been a depressing weekend due to the death of a friend into a relaxing getaway. We highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast. This history and warmth of this home will be remembered always.

We stayed at the Gollmar Guest House in July'03 and had a wonderful time. The house is beautiful. We had the attic room which really wasn't any higher up than the other rooms but did have sloped ceilings like an attic would. This room had a fireplace and also a whirlpool tub although we didn't use either.

The breakfast was amazingly delicious and the hosts very friendly and accomodating. I'd definitely stay here on my next trip to Baraboo.
