My family stayed at this hotel for a NYE wedding. The front desk staff was very friendly and check in was easy. The hotel was full between the wedding guests, the holiday weekend and local oil and gas men looking for rooms. We live locally but decided to stay the night to avoid driving on NYE.
The hotel has been open for ever but has undergone several name / ownership changes in recent years. We received a room with two small full size beds and it came to about $122 for the night.
The room appeared clean at first except for the carpet but when my young child dropped a toy and it rolled under the edge of the bedspread, we found a lifesaver and fork laying there so obviously the sweeper had not been run in quite some time! The room was incredibly hot and the AC did not seem to be working, nor did the window open - it was miserable to sleep in. The walls were very thin and we could here lots of conversations and people moving about all night and we were up on the 4th floor. The TV was small and older and the shower leaked into the tub so the water pressure was poor. The breakfast consisted of some fruit, packaged sweet rolls, coffee and orange juice.
Overall for the price and the size of this small town we were dissapointed with our stay. Wheeling has several newer (Springhill) or recently updated (Hampton) hotels so if you are coming to visit, we recommend those over the McClure.
