“If you need a room near Wheeling, stay here! You won't be disappointed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

As a former Four Seasons employee (not kidding) I'm a bit of a snob and didn't want to stay at an Econo Lodge. We were traveling with our dog though, so our selection was limited! We called ahead on our way to the hotel December 23rd and (after checking to make sure it was okay to bring Fido), we made reservations. When we arrived 15 minutes later, we were warmly welcomed by the front desk agent, who informed us that he had already brought down extra towels and blankets to our room. He then offered my kids cookies and me a cup of tea--all in the first 3 minutes of walking in the door.
The room has been recently renovated--new paint, carpet, bedding (it's great) and mattresses. They have not replaced the sink and it was old, but hey, I didn't really care. We slept like a bunch of rocks.
In the morning we had the typical better than a basic continental breakfast in a cheery room with a fireplace off a pretty lobby. We liked it so much that when we drove through on the return home we marked it on the GPS so we could return. The return was as pleasant as the first stay, only this time it wasn't a surprise. As we checked out, we were filling up coffee cups with hot cocoa for my 3 kids. Rather than give me the evil eye, the breakfast hostess actually offered me a carrier and suggested we try the French Vanilla creamer. Not only will we definitely return, we already have! Try it, you won't be disappointed. :)

“Above and beyond my expectations!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

I visit family in the area often and usually I stay at the Comfort Inn across the way from this Econo Lodge. I must say I will stay at the Econo Lodge from now on. I paid more to stay at the other hotel and The Econo Lodge has gone above and beyond my expectations. The staff was so helpful and friendly. The breakfast was delicious! Parking was very accomodating. The pool looks gorgeous and I can not wait to visit it this summer. The lobby was clean and was beautiful. I have stayed in many high class hotels and this rates right up there in my book. Cotton sheets and comfy beds to rest my head at night, who could ask for more. If I can change on thing about the hotel, it would be the TV's in the room and the cable service, but that could be just the area not the hotel. Thanks Econo lodge staff, see you again soon.

“Basic, wasn't as good as expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

After reading reviews about a tired hotel that had been updated and revived, we were expecting more, and were disappointed. Our king bed room was small and claustrophic feeling. The bathroom was barely large enough to turn around in and didn't have an exhaust fan. The sink (outside the bathroom) had a counter with little room for toiletries. The parking lot was not well lit and we had trouble navigating in the dark. After reading reviews from other travelers, I expected to be wowed by the updated hotel. Yes the carpet and bedding have been replaced, but the garment rack has some rust, the guest amenity book is falling apart, and the room smells stale. For the room rate, we expected much more than we received for our money. The next time we are passing this direction, we will probably drive a bit further for a nicer Holiday Inn. This is just an average hotel.

“Renovated Rooms and Great Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2010

Stayed at this hotel last year andreturned this year and was pleasantly surprised that the company has renovated all the hotel rooms. New carpeting, drapes, bedding, furniture, it all surprised us. I have to laugh at one of the comments concerning the GM. The weekend we stayed at the hotel, there was a baseball tournament. We actually viewed the General Manager trying to deal with numerous parents who were obviously intoxicated. The GM had to deal with parents who were drunk and they invited their friends who were staying at other hotels that did not have a pool. I have to give the GM credit. His actions actually made me feel better, cause all the people who were not guests had to leave. There was more room for us. Dealing with drunk people, especially drunk baseball parents would be a challenge. The parents were drinking inside the pool, and it is clearly marked No Food and Beverage (for obvious reason) The hotel provided a picnic area outside the pool area. I plan on retuning next year. I hope the GM is still there. I have his back...LOL The staff is great and i know that comes from solid leadership.

“DO NOT STAY HERE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

Was at this hotel 14-18 July 2010 for a baseball tournament. The hotel itself is very old; worst HI facility ever experienced . Rooms are cramped and damp. All of this I can accept. What I cannot accept is a highly combative and anger driven GM that apparently has nothing better to do than attack guests at his leisure, including minors. To keep this brief, the rest of the staff was very pleasant, more so than usual to compensate for the anger issues of the GM. Of our group of approx. 30, at least a dozen had run-ins with him, sought out by himself. So bad was the staff embarrassed that the A-GM comped everyone in our group an almost free nights stay.

I have already submitted a complaint via Priority Club online and will be following up in person on phone. Be forewarned, do not stay here. Go across the highway to the hotel.
