I was in the Wheeling area for a weekend in October 2011 and decided to stay at the Econo Lodge in Triadelphia mainly because of the price and because so few hotel rooms in the Wheeling area seemed to be available. My initial reaction when I was making my reservation was, "99 dollars for an Econo Lodge? You've got to be kidding. There must be some huge event going on that causes all the hotel rooms to jack up their prices." Well, it turns out that the industry down in Wheeling has a lot of out-of-town workers and hotel rooms are rather scarce. It was a good thing I'd made a reservation! This particular Econo Lodge is not like a typical cheap Econo Lodge property. I learned that it used to be Holiday Inn, and you could tell by looking at the interior.
Very nice facility for an Econo Lodge. My room was quiet, clean, and very comfortable. I appreciated the fact that the hotel has a business center with computers where guests who don't travel with laptops can hop online to check e-mail or whatever for free (although it was a very slow Internet connection). The hotel has an outdoor pool which I didn't get an opportunity to use. The breakfast was very good... sausage gravy and biscuits, cereal, yogurt, bagels, donuts, coffee, juice, etc. The one thing that was funny is that the marquee out front mentioned the make-your-own Belgian waffles. However, I didn't see those in the breakfast room. :-(
All in all, the experience was pleasant. A couple minor issues did crop up though. First, there was no laundry bag in the room. I had to go to the front desk and ask for one. Second, the TV channel lineup was somewhat limited. No VH1. I love watching the weekend video countdown, but VH1 was not one of the channels offered. Third, there was a slight problem with the toilet as a bit of the waste backed up overnight and caused a huge stink when I raised the seat to use the toilet the next morning. Yuck.
Overall, I'd recommend this Econo Lodge for any traveler who ends up in Wheeling. Good place to stay overall.
