“needs improvment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2007

We have stayed here in the past the rooms are great and location as far as accesability to main roads are great. Most of the staff are freindly although the gentleman at the desk last night had a little attitude problem. The only thing that really needs improvment is the free breakfast. Hot waffles or cold cereal for the children would be nice, visit some of your other competators offering breakfast and you'll see it makes a difference

“A Breath of Fresh Air”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2007

I stayed at the Microtel in Charleston the night of October 12, 2007. I was in Charleston on business. I try to be frugal when I travel as each cent spent that doesn't have to be spent comes out of my earnings. Hence, I spend a lot of time at Super 8s and Microtels.

Upon arrival at the Charleston Microtel I was greeted in the warm, typical southern West Virginia way that I find so endearing among my adopted state brethren. While the gentleman was beginning to check me in, his wife came out to the desk and took over because "your Dad" is on the telephone. The next morning as I was checking out I saw Dad cleaning the light fixtures in the foyer. Please do not mistake this family description as a lack of professionalism. I was checked in and checked out efficiently.

I stayed in a queen room. I was very pleased with the room. Oh, yes, it was the typical MICROtel sized room but it was spotless. I have stayed at much more expensive hotels and dealt with far more filth. Everything in the room was in good repair. The television had plenty of channels to keep me entertained on a Friday evening away from home. The wireless internet was excellent and the breakfast was a cut above the budget hotel fare, although nothing elaborate.

I was discussing my travel with a friend who also travels a lot for his business and he has also stayed at this specific Microtel and been very pleased.

“Good experience”

The hotel was clean, the room was small but nicely arranged and we had everything we needed for a night's stay. I am sure we will return in the future since we travel I64 to visit family and this hotel is easy to get to from I64. The breakfast is very simple for a continental breakfast but we only got a glass of juice and a cup of tea since we were meeting someone for breakfast. This is not the place to stay for a cooked breakfast.

“Good hotel for the money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2007

I've stayed at this hotel several times ove the years and each time has always been pretty good. It's not the eurosuites, but for a business or economically minded traveler it is a good place to stay and is close to everything as well.

The rooms are clean and comfortable. One thing I do recommend doing is if you make reservations try to get the front part of the hotel. On the back side of the hotel towards the interstate the rooms are still nice, but the couple of times I have stayed on that side a train of some type goes right by the hotel about 6 in the morning and aways end up waking me up. I don't know if it is a regular line or for just between a couple of the factories or something, but it sounds like it goes somewhere, drops something off then returns so I just work around it now.

Some rooms do have microwaves and refrigerators if you need them. They do offer a breakfast which is basically the continental style. If you do miss breakfast (which I think is over at 9:00) there is a Hardee's right across the street. I believe the drive through is open 24 hours so that may solve late night munchies as well.

I never tried to get one, but the website also states you can get passes to work out at the South Charleston YMCA if you need to as well. I have never had a problem with the staff in all my stays here. They are usually very friendly and ready to help you if you need it.

  • Liked — Very economically priced for that area and the rooms are nice for the average traveler.
  • Disliked — The Choo Choo.

“Great, except for the ants!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2006

07/08/2006 - Saw the sign off of the Interstate and decided to give it a try. If you're unfamiliar with Microtel, it's called 'Micro' for a reason. The rooms are about the size of a typical College dorm room, but this is perfectly sufficient if all you need is a place to rest/cleanse. Our room consisted of two single beds, a closet with a safe, TV, and a normal 3-piece bathroom. Everything appeared clean. The continental breakfast consisted of the typical items such as cereal, juice, coffee, toast, muffins, oranges, and apples etc.

While preparing to leave in the morning I discovered that an infestation of ants had gotten into my clothes that were spread across the window seat. This caused a 30 minute delay in my departure as I had to eradicate them (as best I could) before changing and packing up my remaining articles. If it weren't for the ants I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
