Provided a lot of comfort. The clerk who made my reservation gave me the room with the king bed and sofa despite my saying I really didn't need the sofa--well, once you've had a sofa you never want to go back. Especially if your trip is delayed for a few extra days and you're stuck in the room because of constant drizzle, fog, rain, and downpours, that sofa provides a real respite from having to sit on the bed or at the desk. The room itself was large, clean and comfortable, with an iron, hangers, fridge and microwave, decent sized desk, and lots of lights. Across the driveway there's a McDonald's, drugstore, laundromat, good pizza/sub place with dynamite soups and things like grilled talapia salad, and a Food Lion grocery store, where I could buy frozen meals to microwave, which really cut down on my food costs and saved trips in the pouring rain to restaurants. This is the only shopping plaza for this historic little town, and within a quarter mile of it are banks, gas station, and a Dollar General, as well as many restaurants and shops within the town itself, which you can walk to and there's a bike trail to it too. There's fresh decent coffee available in the lobby 24/7. The fitness room is tiny but has a couple of treadmills. The only downside, and it is a big one, is that the internet access is really not good--it would disappear every few minutes and it was difficult and inconvenient to get back online. Cell phone service was even worse--first time I've ever experienced dropped calls, and it happened every other time I tried to use the phone.
