This cute bed and breakfast is in Pennsboro, WV, located directly on the North Bend Rail Trail. I had wanted to bicycle the North Bend trail ever since I read about it in the magazine of Rails to Trails, the national group that advocates for abandoned rail beds to be converted to trails for bicycling, hiking, and horseback riding. The owner of this B&B graciously included the use of one of his bikes as part of the room rate. The trail was absolutely beautiful, and is definitely a must-see. You'll bike through wild West Virginia wilderness, over and along rivers, through tunnels, and past small towns that saw their heyday in another era. Cairo, WV is particularly fun, with its old-time R.C. Marshall Hardware Store, bicycle shop, and ice cream parlor (open on weekends in the summer).
Other things I appreciated about the Bed and Breakfast:
King size bed
Lack of smelly sheets and other scents in the room (some B&B owners get the idea that they should add air freshener or other scented things to the room. Personally, that stuff gives me a headache, so I'm relieved when I encounter a B&B that doesn't do that)
Friendly, mellow host
Good continental breakfast in the morning (lots of cereal options, English muffins, pastries, orange juice).
Quiet and comfortable
If there was one thing that could be improved about this B&B, it would be putting into the room all the things that come standard with most hotel rooms: washcloths, a box of tissues, and lots more pillows (not just decorative pillows, but ones used for sleeping). But this is minor stuff overall, and I would highly recommend this B&B to others, particularly to anyone with an interest in the North Bend Rail Trail.
