“Needs TLC”

We have stayed at this Comfort Inn in the past and enjoyed it. I was extremely displeased this time. Our room was not the cleanest, but what bothered me most was the awful cigarette odor that was soaked into the beds. We were in a nonsmoking room and felt that shouldn't have been an issue. I was actually awaken several times in the night because my face was off of the pillow and the odor was choking.

It is really time for an upgrade to the old, uncomfortable, smelly beds.

On a positive note, I enjoyed the work-out area. I was provided a free toothbrush because I had forgotten mine. That is important because I had forgotten it in other hotels that advertised they had complementary items they did not actually have.

“The people make the difference”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

Stayed here with my family over the Labor Day weekend in adjoining rooms.
Hotel is right off I-81..easy to find.
The check-in staff, the housekeeping staff, the breakfast attendant...every employee we came in contact with... were friendly and seemed to be glad we were there. If I remember nothing else from this visit, it will be the professional and welcoming attitude exhibited by the staff. To me, that is a mark of good management and great training.

The furnishings are not luxurious, but they're not cheap either. The decor is dated but not worn. Carpet, wall coverings, linens, towels, all tasteful and in good repair. Beds and pillows were comfortable, TV and free Wifi were satisfactory, the bathroom was clean and roomy and the hot water plentiful (though the water pressure was a bit weak and the showerhead lower on the wall than I like.). The AC made for a suitable in room temp, but was louder than one might have hoped for. No matter. Better a louder, cool room than a quiet, sweltering one, huh?

Continental breakfast is free and plentiful with a nice variety and good quality. Bread products were fresh and there was a nice selection of cereals, oatmeals and yougurts. I know you (or, at least, your kids) are waiting for the magic word...waffles! Yep...they've got 'em. The Attendant kept the dining area clean. (By the way, and this is not unique to this venue: Thanks for wiping the table, but when it's that wet after, how about drying it, too?).

Other thoughts:
There is a large laundry room on the 3rd floor, should the need arise.

Parking is close in and free.

A few food choices in walking distance including: a steak place, an asian place, a KFC, a (year round) Rita's Italian Ice and a Sheetz.

We tried to the pool, but it was pretty cold. We did enjoyed visiting with family on the deck for a while during the day.

Read all of the comments here about noise problems...I experienced no such issue.

You won't mistake it for the W, but it's more than a clean, safe place to sleep. Plenty of value to be had here.

“Noisy in the morning and quite dated all the time”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2010

We were half way home from a trip to North Carolina when we stopped here for the night. I had planned a few days before where we would be in the night and chose this hotel over a Comfort Inn in Hagerstown MD because it came with a fridge and was slightly cheaper.

We checked in close to 11pm and the front desk was efficient and courteous. Ditto when we checked out the following morning around 11am.

HOTEL EXPERIENCE
~ Quite dated.
~ The lobby isn't so bad and there is a lounge which has nice chairs
~ Luggage trolley's carpet is dirty and old (all three of them)
~ 2nd floor - carpet is dated and dirty
~ Pool is green (not that I wanted to swim)
~ Breakfast ends at 9:30:00. Remember that. I went down around 9:40am and everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) - except the coffee was gone. I vaguely remember a few other Comfort Inns that would neither replenish nor bundle everything up at 9:30am. We overslept so yeah I missed it - but rubbed me the wrong way. Funny I saw the late night staff put most of the stuff out at 1am. In my mind - add nothing more at 9:30am and start clearing around 9:50am.

ROOM EXPERIENCE
~ The room appearance overall was okay
~ Bed was rather uncomfortable and no matter what part of your body moved, the bed would creak
~ Bathroom had plenty of towels. The shower head was old (not very effective massage wise) and placed at the top of my chest - and I am 6ft.
~ A/C was turned down and when it went on was not too noisy
~ Toilet was the old "use as much water as possible" style

The biggest complaint was the maid service of which I made a complaint about during checkout. For whatever reason they (more than one) had the music blaring in the room as they were cleaning it. Unacceptably loud - as in turned way up w/doors open of course. I was woken earlier (around 730) with banging doors - I suspected kids in a room nearby but then was reawakened by the maids and their music between 9-915am. Never encountered this before (music - yes but not waking up guests) and would advise everyone to complain should this continue. Today anyone can get a personal Mp3 player for under $50 and listen to music they want to hear without bothering others. I witnessed the above two maids upon my walk down to the "closed" breakfast.

Goods
~ Mini-Fridge (worked great to cool our beverages and freeze our packs for the next day)
~ Free Wifi - Wireless N standard
~ Microwave (didn't use it but nice to have one)
~ 24hr Coffee (had a few between 1-2am and around 9:45am - always hot enough)
~ Overhead cover outside the lobby (not all of them have this)
~ Multiple floors - inner corridors

Bads
~ Maid noise and dated building
~ Room LCD TV would flicker the odd time to a different aspect ratio - annoyed my wife to no end
~ Creaking bed and uncomfortable (wife rarely complains and found this to be a bother)
~ Shower was poor

On the one hand I liked the Wifi; Fridge and 24hr coffee but not enough pluses to help this dated location. Hotel rates a two and we have had better overall experience at other Comfort Inns.

“weekend getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2010

We just had a very romantic weekend in this hotel and everyone involved worked hard to make it so perfect. We enjoyed the jacuzzi suite and it was clean, spacious , comfortable and
romantic. All the staff worked to make the stay perfect. Especially Linda the manager and Shannon the front desk supervisor. thank you all for your help to us.

“Absolutely a clean comfortable place to stay with a friendly staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2010

I was traveling with co workers we were all cautious about staying here, but once we walked in the door and were greeted with a smile and a friendly welcome, it all felt good. The furniture is a bit outdated but the room was clean and comfortable. All the staff were friendly. Awesome breakfast. I'll definately stay here on my way back home.
