“Stay Away from this place at all costs!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2009

The website for this inn is about as deceptive as they get, and I would strongly recommend staying anywhere else than this place. The cost was over $100, and it was a nightmare! First off, the room we stayed in had no phone. Which doesn't really matter, because they have no services or concierge of any matter. The check-in took over 30 minutes, why I have no idea. Our room had no fire alarm or way of locking the door (no chain, swing-arm, or independent bolt). The room was above the kitchen for restaurant, so the noise was terrible. When you do get quiet, the 4 lane major highway 100 yards away shows you what rest and relaxation is not like. The "continental breakfast" consisted of two pre-packaged blueberry muffins and 2 6oz cans of pineapple juice. These were left on our desk at check-in. The trim in the room is unpainted w/ nails sticking out. The shower temp was about 90degrees on our thermometer...woulda felt great had it not been 30degrees outside. The heat in the room was very good.... so good that at midnight we were awakened to find the room unbearably hot, and the thermostat was broken. We had to turn it off and then be nearly frozen by 5am. We tried to eat at the restaurant, but had to leave after standing in the lobby w/ basically no assistance. This was after we tried to make reservations, but were told they were slow and it wasn't necessary. This place is a rip-off LLC operation...stay away at all cost and go to the Econo8 at the base of the mountain...it would have to be classier than this place! Also, they represent themselves as being AAA approved, gave me a AAA discount, and have a AAA sign when you enter the property. However, they are not AAA approved and I filed a complaint w/ AAA and the BBB.

“Mad props to the website designer...the actual hotel was a little different”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2009

My boyfriend and I decided to get away from the DC city life for the weekend and choose the mountains of West Virginia. We like to take our dog, Lhasa Apso, with us whenever we can and we found hotels that allowed pets, without an extra charge. This was the one we choose.

Lets just say that whoever designed this hotel's website did an amazing job, because we were a bit disappointed with what we actually got. We stayed in the lodge which might be where the differences came from versus staying in the cabins.

Our room was quiet large, with a seventies leather chair and coffee table, a queen size bed and night tables, a fridge (with a large bag of frozen chicken nuggets in the freezer), and an old tube television with DISH satellite (ironic). We had a deck off the room and the view was amazing! We stayed out on the deck whenever we could. It was better than looking at the parked cars off our deck at home.

The bathroom is what really appalled us. There was only half a roll of toilet paper left on the roller and no more to be found in the room (although we did ask for more after dinner and were easily accommodated). There was no hand soap provided; only a bottle of shampoo. The plastic shower curtain was barely hanging up on the 4/10 un-ripped punchout holes and was covered with mold. The bath towels were thin too.

Dinner was really good too. Complements to the chef. The stuffed pepper appetizer was delicious but there was only one so we were a bit worried about the size of the rest of the meal. We ordered the specials...the ribs and the jerk chicken. You definitely got a LOT of food for the main course. I wouldn't classify the dining experience as "fine dining" as their website described it. I felt a bit over dressed when the young men sat down in jeans and t-shirt behind us. The bartender was very friendly and willingly gave some suggestions for night life activities in Elkins.

Overall, we had a pleasant stay. I think we just expected more based on the website and were a bit disappointed.

“IF YOU BELEIVE THEIR WEBSITE YOU WILL BE IN FOR A BIG LETDOWN!!!”

1. They forgot to mention the 4 lane highway that takes away from the view because of the noise.
2. We stayed in the cabins which where nothing more than a couple of detached motel rooms with a continental breakfast area.
3. Continental breakfast consisted of a muffin, small can of cranberry juice, and an apple.
4. No phone.
5. No Internet
6. Hot tub wasn't private.
7. There was a sauna that attached the 2 bathrooms so the locks on the bathrooms are on the outside of the doors.
8. No one was ever at the front desk.
9. No view from the cabins because of the trees.
10. Over priced
11. Nowhere to sit inside except a rocking chair in the "very not private" breakfast area.
12. Did I mention way over priced?
13. Oh ya the bed wasn't comfortable!

“Good place, beautiful view.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2009

Calling this place a lodge brings up an image that is really not accurate. This is a fairly budget accomodation that is perfectly nice and has a beautiful view of the West VA mountains. It is right over a 4 lane freeway, so you can hear some noise. It is not a superdeluxe kind of place, but is totally fine. Our room was about $80 for a night and included internet, a refrigerator and free dog. If you're expecting Ritz Carlton or Greenbrier for this price, you should go somewhere else. If you're trying to decide between EconoLodge and somewhere a step up, I highly recommend this place. It really is quite good and the people there are really nice. The restaurant is also quite good and worth a visit. Truly a beautiful view.

Wow! what a unbelievable place the food was as good as any place. I travel the North America and Europe. It is as close of a experience to fine dining I have had, The rooms are cozy and the attention given made us feel special. We look forward to our next visit.
