Cheat River Lodge and Cabins are nestled in a remote, scenic area of West Virginia’s Monongahela National Forest within easy reach of three designated wildernesses reserves. Also, many interesting, cultural heritage festivals, restaurants and shops can be found in the towns and mountains not far from the lodge and cabins.

We have been vacationing at the “Big Poplar” cabin two or three times a year for the last twelve years and obviously love and appreciate the peace and natural beauty that are experienced there. Next to a river in the mountains, the rustic, well-constructed log cabin is a quiet, comfortable place to read, study, hike or just observe the day go by without distractions or interruptions. The staff of the Cheat River Lodge as well as the people that we meet in that part of West Virginia have been consistently warm and friendly creating a pleasant atmosphere for an outstanding vacation.

My husband and I have been staying here for the past 2.5 years, since my son has been in college in Elkins and we could not ask for a nicer place. Rooms are clean, service is great. We also take our dog with us. In the spring we stay at least 4-5 weekends. Calling ahead has allowed us the convenience of checking in at odd times if necessary. My husband and son fish here and it has great access to the river and waliking areas. We plan again to stay there this coming spring. There is a phone at checkin to contact the owners if needed. We have also stayed at The Big Popular cottage for a long weekend which was very nice, quiet and also highly recommended. West Virginia our state is wild and wonderful. This is a place to rest, relax and enjoy life.

I called on July 20, 2011 and made resrevations for 2 nights for July 29 & 30.I had to pay 100. advance by check ONLY they said so I mailed it out on July 21. On July 23 I broke my foot and was in hospital. I called them on July 25. to tell them I could not come those dates and asked if I could get a refund or just change the dates. I was told I could NOT get a refund or could not even change reservation dates, it didnt matter my reason. That the ONLY way I could get my money back was if I rented my room to someone myself. I even sent them copies of my hospital release forms verifying I was not lying about my reason, but the owner was VERY rude and said she didnt care what my reason was. I will still go to the area probably in the spring but I WILL NOT make a reservation at the Cheat River Lodge. Beware if you make a reservation with them, you could be making a donation .

We stayed at The Laurel House property which advertised 5 bedrooms, 3 full baths, 3 color tvs and a hot tub. There was only one working television, one window air conditioning unit for the entire house which was located in one of the guest rooms on the main floor. The 2nd floor bedrooms and bathroom were not air conditioned. The hot tub wouldn't heat up properly. The house and its decks were advertised as overlooking the Cheat River when in fact they did not. The house backs up to the woods with no water in sight. The property is suitable for large groups but we over paid for what we got and it was not properly advertised.
