I travel a lot for work and pleasure and often stay at Marriott properties. Never again for this one! The Fairfield Inn in Charelston WV needs a complete overhaul, and even more importantly a CLEANING. The hotel smells like bottles and bottles of some cheap cleaning fluid has been poured onto everything in an attempt to mask some OTHER smell. The carpets are dirty - in the elevator you could see that they had vacuumed in the CENTER of the rug, but all sides and corners were filthy and hadn't been touched for a very long time.

The rooms were likewise dirty - dust was so thick you could (and we did) literally write in it. And after the room was "cleaned" the next day the writing was untouched! The heating units were not suited for a cold weather location like WV - you couldn't set a temperature for the room and be done with it. You had to turn on "fan, heat, low" and then the room would overheat and you would have to turn it off a while. That is fine for a room in Las Vegas, where you rarely need heat, but not West VA!

The nightstand by my bed had a mysterious, crusty white stain on the side of it... Yuck. This, too, stayed even after the room was "cleaned" in the morning.

My fitted sheet didn't stay on, and when they brought me a new one to the room they expected me to put it on myself (they ended up helping me, but I did half the work, which just seems ODD for a hotel, no??). Also, I was unclear if the "new" sheet was CLEAN since it arrived in a wadded up ball.

I will not go into the condemned room they had (giving them the benefit of the doubt on that one - they must have had a very bad experience with a guest....)

Other reviewers have mentioned mold in the heating/ac units - I second that. Disgusting to have to turn it on to warm the room when you know you are blowing MOLD around.

Overall, a VERY BAD experience. A couple of the front desk clerks were nice, but that could not negate all of the other bad points about the property.

I was thrilled to be able to check out early and leave.
