We stopped in Charleston on our drive back north from Myrtle Beach. We usually stay at an HIE, and actually thought this was one when we made the reservation, since we used the HIE website when making it. We opted for this hotel because the other HIE that was on our route would not allow us to cancel our reservation, and this Holiday Inn had a 6pm cancellation deadline. And since we were driving, we felt more comfortable having that option should something unexpected happen along the way. So, when we got to the address, and saw it was a regular Holiday Inn, I went in to inquire about the accomodations (my husband wanted to see if we could still cancel and just go to the HIE, since we know what to expect and like what we get).
So, I went in and the woman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. It turned out that there was a breakfast buffet included in the price of our room. She called it a "continental breakfast," but it included scrambled eggs, home fries and sausage as well as plenty of the expected options for bread/muffins/bagels, fruit, cereal, yogurt. And, on the weekend the breakfast is served from 7AM-12Noon.
On top of this, they had a restaurant where we could eat for dinner, or have any meal delivered by room service. The prices were beautifully reasonable. For dinner for a family of 4, our total bill was less than $40, including the cocktail I had. I meant to take photos of the menu, because I was so impressed with the offerings and the pricing.
The hotel looked like it was pretty full, but the staff was very attentive. We asked for extra pillows before bed and for an extra towel in the morning, and they brought them to us very quickly. They are in the process of renovating this hotel, so a few things were out of place. They are working on the landscaping, so you could see a few unusual things like a back hoe and trees waiting to be planted. One of the elevators was out of commission so checking out in the morning might have been a hassle. I was very glad to be a Priority Member and have late checkout. As it was, I walked down to breakfast because the one elevator was too slow at that time of day, but by 11AM, it was usable again.
The bar in the hotel, the pool and the fitness center were all open till midnight. We took advantage of the great pool (awesome little section for the kids with spray fountains and a waterfall and the deeper end of the pool, with beautiful lighting in and around the pool) before we went to bed and when we got up in the morning. The free wifi worked fine, and the bed was great.
We would stay here again in a heartbeat!
