“A pleasant escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2009

My wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant stay. The inn is very comfortable and nicely appointed, with comfortable furniture in the guest rooms and living room, a nice front porch with rocking chairs, and wide lawns complete with gazebo. It is far from everything, tucked at the end of a gravel road amidst rolling hills of forest and crops (in contrast to other well-rated inns in the area, located in the hearts of Shepherdstown, Charles Town, etc.). Barbara greeted us warmly, offering a brief house tour and bottles of water, and ushering us to our room (room 2, which is quite large and comfy for both sleeping and sitting). The full breakfast featured fresh-squeezed OJ, coffee, fruit dish, hot biscuits, and eggs-to-order served with hash browns and sausage. Although the inn does not feature internet access, my hosts offered me access to their wifi or to use a computer in their offices if I wished. The Cottonwood Inn is a good value and a nice place for a getaway, and we will consider it again the next time we travel to the Charles Town area.

“Perfect for few days in countryside, birding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2009

This is a very charming bed and breakfast truly in the countryside (read, no internet, no TV anywhere, and no phones in room) We spent hours walking the large treed property finding many birds and some other wild life, including a groundhog.

It lived up to the previous reviews. The room we had was very large, the breakfasts tasty and filling, the hosts extremely pleasant and helpful. They provided some invaluable hand-drawn local maps to make our travels easier. Quilters will esp. love the decor.

Loads of interesting sites are nearby, including Harper's Ferry and the Appalachain Trail. And plenty to see nearby, including picturesque ruins of a stone church, and graves, from the early 1800s. Plenty of farm roads to wonder as well.

“Loved the Cottonwood Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2007

The Cottonwood Inn is a wonderfu country B&B outside Charles Town, WV. The public rooms are beautiful and well appointed with antiques, comfortable chairs, and bookshelves full of books to pass the time. Our room was wonderful, large, clean and comfortable, at the top of the charming, winding staircase...so comfortable and homey!. We loved the country atmosphere, being able to walk along the country lanes, then spend time before dinner, rocking and reading on the Inn porch. The peaceful evening and night, with owls hooting and birds singing in the evening and morning were wonderful to hear. And we can't say enough about the breakfast...it was delicious, everything we could have asked for, plus great conversation with a couple from California who sat at the next table. The innkeepers, Joe and Barbara were very helpful and friendly, recommending a wonderful local Italian restaurant, La Mezzuluna Cafe, for dinner. We would definitely return to the Cottonwood Innl

“Very relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2005

The Cottonwood Inn was a very refreshing vaction. Living in a big city it's always nice to get away and I highly recommend the Cottonwood Inn as the place to go. The house is wonderful and the room my fiance and I stayed in, though it was said to be one of the smaller rooms, was a nice size. The Inn keepers are very nice and gave us a map of the area and made great recommendations for places to eat and for entertainment. They also fixed a great breakfast every morning for all of the guests.

“This is A getaway to remember”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2004

I loved it. It was beautiful. We went in the middle of winter and it was spacious and the hosts made you feel really welcome, especially with leaving out hot homemade apple cider and a warm fire. It was a trek up the stairs though, but I was pregnant at the time. No TV's no Radios either, so you spend a lot of time with your mate. We played monopoly until 3 AM, and it was a lot of fun, the rooms are clean and spacious, and the owners make a large breakfast in the morning. I enjoyed it IMMENSELY.
