“Sleep in your car instead!”

This combination motel, restaurant, bar, retirement home and dentist office is conveniently located in town. The restaurant food was good, reasonably priced and the servers were pleasant, attentive and well trained.

My colleagues and I travel alot throughout the country on business and this was easily the most unpleasant lodging experience I've had in many years. With the exception of one young lady, all the front desk personnel were lacking in people skills or were outright rude. On one occasion, it took the kitchen workers over fifteen minutes to find the desk clerk! Rooms were clean but sometimes smelly with water pipes rattling under the floors throughout the night. Poor soundproofing meant disturbances in the hallways, other rooms and noise from the bar were clearly audible. I could easily hear music from the first floor bar in my second floor room. Any water usage in the motel drains off the hot water so be prepared for a few cold shocks when taking a shower. Some washcloths were nothing more than torn rags and should have been replaced. The first morning, the promised continental breakfast was nowhere in sight - the desk clerk set up the food in the closed restaurant area and kept the lights turned off! The second morning, the above mentioned friendly desk clerk had everything properly prepared. The third morning, the bowl of mixed fruit was fermented and inedible. Thankfully, we finished our work a day early and left town...

There's a train track but it doesn't run frequent ---this is west virginia and it's a small town...it's located in town close to wesleyan--you can walk into town ....the room was very clean with blow dryer, ironing board, iron--cable--they do offer coffee in the morning and granola bars...they have a/c which in the summer you need in west virginia---there's a slide and swings for children in the back--it's a clean place--there's no riff raff either

“OK hotel in cute town”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2007

We wanted a relatively inexpensive place to stay in mid-West Virginia for one night to break up our trip and had heard that Buckhannon was a cute town, so we found the Bicentennial Inn on the web and decided to give it a try. Hotel had supposedly been recently renovated, and to me it seemed OK, although watch out for the late night/early morning freight trains travelling through about 30 yards behind the hotel! I did go back to sleep after they passed (twice during the night), but it was a bit unnerving; it didn't really bother my wife. Relatively clean rooms & bathrooms, but my wife didn't feel that it was clean as it should be and the hallway smalled "old".

Hotel has a restaurant/lounge, but we didn't eat dinner or breakfast there, found a place for dinner on main street (Maggie's something or other, good place) and then had breakfast just a few doors down at a diner near the train tracks that had good food. Hotel was a bit expensive ($75 or so) for what it was, but it was less expensive than the local Hampton Inn, and was probably nicer than a few of the other more budget choices in town. Not deluxe, but if you just want a place to put your head down for the night (keeping in mind that you'll probably wake up a few times thanks to the freight trains), it's OK. We liked the town, and hope that some local business picks up on main street since it has a lot of promise.
