We have actually stayed at two different cottages managed by the Berkeley Springs Cottage Rentals company, one in July and one this past March. Both times, we were extremely happy with all aspects of our stay. Both times, we stayed with extended family and with our own two small children.

The first cabin we stayed at was called "Heron's Rest on the River." Like the name suggests, this home was right on the river. We could walk across the road and roast marshmallows and relax right by the river and in the summer months, this would be the perfect place to put in tubes and float down the river. This home had all the amenities we needed, especially with a larger group -- several bathrooms, several bedrooms, a nice living room for coming together, and a deck in back with a grill.

The log cabin, called "Freedom Mountain," we stayed at in July was truly luxurious. We were looking for something really special this time and we got it, for sure. The cabin had four bedrooms, one in a beautiful loft area, two bathrooms (one with a lovely, big jetted tub), a great living room/kitchen area, a beautiful deck with a hot tub, and a great patio and finished basement with a rec room and bar. One of the bedrooms was great for us with our two small children -- it was dark and quiet down there... perfect for us. The cabin was up on top of a mountain and was very isolated (and not near the river, but that didn't bother us -- we were able to go to the river one day for a tubing trip, it was only a 30 minute drive). That's the only downside I could see for some travelers -- this specific cabin might be a bit too isolated.

But Berkeley Springs Cottage Rentals offers many different cabins/cottages, so it's easy to find something that will fit anyone's needs. This company has really impressed us because they take the time to add some personal touches that we haven't seen in many of the places we've stayed (and we are very frequent travelers). Our favorite personal touch was a letter welcoming us to the cabin/home both times and also a list of events that were happening around Berkeley Springs that was customized for the weekend(s) we were staying there.

Overall, we were extremely happy with both our stays and can't wait to go back to Berkeley Springs (we LOVE the town as well) and when we do, we'll definitely rent another cabin or cottage from this company. In fact, we're already planning another trip for this fall!

We stayed at Eagles Watch on the Potomac. It was a small two bedroom home with a lovely garden and your own spring right in the yard. There was access to the river across the lane. The pictures on the website are quite accurate although they do not show the bathroom which made me a bit nervous. The bathroom however was quite spacious and located conveniently between the two bedrooms. There is a small covered porch on the front of the house and an open deck to the side with picnic table and a brand new grill which we christened while there. The television has no reception although a DVD player is provided with a selection of movies, many westerns. Board games and playing cards were provided as well as books for more quiet activities. I was intrigued by the spring that ran through the property, while not deep enough for swimming it provided a cool place to wade and there were two chairs on either side of a fire pit nearby.

The house is located approximately 15-20 minutes from Berkeley Springs via some very curvy and sometimes narrow roads. Be sure your brakes are in good shape! We enjoyed the remoteness of the location. Be aware that the house sits below the railroad tracks so you will hear the train but in the house with the windows closed and the air conditioning running (it was in the 90's while we were there) we were not bothered by the sound. I would expect after a few days you would not notice it at all.

We visited the town of Berkeley Springs and drove up to the Paw Paw Tunnel for a hike during our long weekend trip. The staff at Berkeley Springs Cottage Rentals were very pleasant to deal with and were quite honest in answering my questions. Payment was conveniently handled online.

A pleasant weekend away for our family.

My wife and I rented a cabin from Berkeley Springs Cottage Rentals. They were so nice and accommodating at first - but that quickly changed the moment we booked and had an issue with mice! These people at Berkeley Springs Cottage Rentals are just plain rude, and untruthful. After getting nowhere with the local staff members, we asked to speak with the owner, Dee, but were told she was gone for the day. We called from our cell phone outside their office, and could see Dee puffing away on a cigarette outside... she was not gone for the day. In short, stay away from this company... they come off as nice in the beginning, but quickly show their true colors after they collect your money. You're basically on your own should any problems arise. Sadly, our vacation was ruined.

On May 29, we stayed at a condo ("Wirth the Wait") rented by the company. The place was infested with ants; during the entire stay we chased and killed ants in multiple rooms. This was particularly upsetting because we had a toddler and two infants who were crawling on the floor.We requested a mere $100 refund (out of a $300 rental price) to compensate us for the very unpleasant stay in the condo. Owner, Dee Slough, rudely refused to provide any compensation at all. As one other reviewer notes, this company apparently does not care about, nor provide any customer service. So if you rent a cottage from them, just hope for the best--because if you have any complaints, you're on your own. My two cents: stay away!
