Upon arrival, I spent about 5 minutes (luggage-in-hand) waiting for the front desk clerk to find the time to check me in. Also, the phone was ringing (she didn't deal with that either), so I had to listen to a ringing phone the entire time. When she finally did come out from the office area, she felt it more important to answer the phone than deal with the person standing right in front of her...me. I waited another 7 minutes while she provided the caller with room rate and availability information, and then took their reservation.
After about 15 minutes, I finally get my room key. Upon entry into my room, I found it to be vaguely reminiscent of my college dormitory...tight and bright lights. The bed and linens were tolerable, but only barely. I get up the next morning, hop in the shower, and come out to find a creepy-crawley meandering his way across a pillow. I think to myself "there's no way that could be a bed bug." So I promptly Googled. Indeed, it WAS a bed bug. I immediately call the front desk (same clerk as last night). She didn't seem too concerned. I asked if someone could come up to the room to verify. Housekeeping came up and also did not seem too concerned about the verified bed bug.
I decided I should probably notify other hotel guests. I stood in the lobby and told all passing guests of my plight and warned they should probably check their own luggage. The hotel offered me no compensation for my hotel-nightmare and eventually asked me to leave if I was "gonna keep telling everybody." I assured her I, absolutely, WAS going to tell everyone. I called and reported to the health department.

Please allow me to apologize for your experience while staying at our hotel. I can assure you all measures have been taken so this issue does not repeat itself. I have also taken your comments and used them as a training tool for our staff to better address if this presents itself again. We do contract a monthly exterminating company and can assure you we DO NOT have a bed bug problem. We invite you to try us again and allow us to prove we are the BEST and cleanest hotel in Beckley.
