Room was supposed to be non smoking and it reaked of smoke. Sheets and pillows were old and appeared to be dirty. Furniture and carpeting was filthy. It was the only available room that we could get for that night as all other hotel rooms were booked. I told the manager and he gave me spray for the room which did not work. My wife put towels over the pillows which were as flat as the bed and we still couldn't sleep. Additional pillows could not be found in the room. The next day I talked to the manager and he did reduce the price by half. This was nice but I will never go back there again. I would rather sleep in my car.

At a price that is on a par with some of the very cheap hotel chains, its hard to complain about this place. Front desk was organized and courteous, check in (with reservations) took all of 45 seconds. The lobby has been refurbished (gone are the mooseheads on the walls) and yes, we are repeat visitors. The rooms have nice furniture, bedding, carpet etc. and are clean. Rooms have a small fridge and microwave. The place was very quiet, the beds were comfortable, and we got a good nights sleep.

On the negative side, there were multiple cigarette burns in the carpet. and while this doesnt really hurt anything, it does detract from the appearance. There was a cigarette burn in one of the sheets. I dont really understand why you would use a sheet that has a cigarette burn in it, but they did. This really made us uneasy (was it a fresh sheet, or one that had been used the night before?). And finally, the breakfast that was included in the price was the scantest I've ever seen. Coffee. one type of cereal. small bagels, small donuts and bread. No fruit of any kind, and the juice machine was not working. I guess you get what you pay for.

It wasn't the most horrible experience, but it wasn't a nice one either. The guy whom I believe was the owner at the front desk was not friendly at all. He seemed 'put out' because I asked a few questions. We asked for a non smoking room and got one that may have been designated non smoking, but it reeked of old cigarette smoke. And I know the bed wasn't changed because the one pillow was still folded in half as though whoever used it the night before just pulled the covers over. The breakfast was okay, but nothing to write home about. I hated everytime I got on the elevator that I had to share it with the "serenity prayer"! The place had religious bible quotes everywhere. Religion doesn't bother me otherwise, except when you're getting ripped off at the same time. I'd never go back and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I really do not know what other reviewers are whinging about - what have you folks been sleeping on - Marshmallows??? My wife cracked her spine falling on black ice was in considerable pain and even she found the beds in this hotel really comfortable. Over four years we have spent many months travelling from Maine all the way to the deep south and this is one of the better and cleaner chain hotel/motel/inn type logings we have stayed in. We stayed two nights and the bedding was changed - not just made up after each night.
The desk clerk was polite and efficient, showed us the room when we asked before committing to anything. The lobby was spotless and decorated for fall in all the fall colours - it was really beautiful compared to other scruffy offerings elsewhere.
The room was spotless as was the bathroom. There was fridge and microwave in the room two queen beds, table and chairs for two and TV - all basic but very clean. There were no lingering odours from previous guests neither were there any 'artificial' scents to mask odours. An elevator and carts for luggage were available to aid with that mound of shopping you have bought on your trip !
The only irk was that they did not accept the voucher from the travel books as they were short on rooms however did give discount for AAA members (but we were UK AA and RAC members and they still give us discount!!!!). This made a whopping great $10 difference - not worth quibbling about and we were glad that we didn't pass this place by. For $62 including tax you really cannot get better - the rest of the chains here in Beckley have miniscule rooms (i.e. Microtel) or whopping huge nightly room rates (the rest!).
