“This time disappointing; booked through Expedia”

We have stayed at this hotel several times in the past and are members of the reward program. We went to book this hotel and noticed it was cheaper through Expedia so we decided to take the 20$ savings. I don't know if that was the reason things had changed but it was defiantly different. We walked in and the woman behind the counter didn't welcome us at all just asked our name. Got the reservations and signed us in. No welcoming at all. Our room was well worn and a little need of updating. Bath tub was weak in one area and had a distressed place in it. The sink was very very slow to drain. This was the first time we tried through Expedia and may be the last if this is the way you are treated. Hope this was just an anomaly.

Room Tip: Don't get a room near the pool. Very noise

“Never Again! I'd sleep in my car first.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Horrible experience, never again. Stayed here probably 6yrs ago and it was very nice, which is why I went out of my way to stay here again. The first King suite we were given on the first floor was dirty and very worn, along with a terrible mildew smell. We were tired and willing to accept it as we just needed a good night's sleep. About an hour after laying down, the A/C made a loud boom sound and started to spray some sort of mist into the air that smelled like chemicals. We had no choice but to pack everything up and be moved to the next room....right next door. The new room was equally as dirty and smelled even worse. This room smelled sour, like vomit. Back to the desk again.....and ready to scream..... we were finally sent upstairs to one of the rooms they were in the middle of renovating. This room did not smell, but the bathroom had not been properly cleaned and I wasn't able to brush my teeth or shower without first removing someone else's hair from the sink and tub. When I'm paying $130 for a room, I am expecting it to be at the very minimum.....clean and somewhere that I can actually sleep. The mattresses here were so soft that our backs were killing us in the morning. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. They reluctantly gave me a $30 discount, but big deal..... we barely slept and never even used the shower as it was dirty. Be forewarned! There are surely better and more reasonable places to stay around the area. I honestly believe we would have slept better in our car.

“Don't have hot water”

We stopped by Country Inn & Suites By Carlson at Beckley on the way to Florida. Nice looking hotel and after 10 hours drive we were happy to get to a hotel so we can relax and checked in.

Check in was easy and was in our room...rested and went for dinner. This is an OK hotel for stopping over.

However later on we noticed that there is 'no enough' hot water because we are 'way down the hall' and it's normal not to have enough hot water pushed through! It's strange!
We did not bring our pet and from the other reviews we emphasised 'non pet' room and were given a non-pet room on the other side of the hall - which was good.

We did not try their breakfast because we left at 6:30 am and head on our way to Florida but it looks like things were ready for the guests.

From our end, it's an OK 'stop over' hotel and reasonable price.

“Disappointed with an old friend!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We have used this hotel several times while driving to and from Florida from Ontario and never been disappointed. It is our regular stop and we have come to depend on its comfort and cleanliness. We travel with a well behaved dog and have never been unhappy with any rooms we were allotted. They were always clean and well appointed with a good breakfast selection available.
We actually stayed at this hotel twice this past Christmas holiday, once while driving down to Florida and were in a king suite on the first floor (which is where all the pet friendly rooms are). No complaint at all.
On the way home the first week of January, we again stayed for the night and were given a room next to our previous one. It was the difference between night and day. As soon as we walked in, we could see the window treatments all ripped and hanging in shreds. Very bad first impression. Although the rest of the room was ok, it was hard not to be affected by these horrible dirty shredded curtains.
When I called the front desk and informed them of this, the man on the desk said, quite rudely, well what did I expect from a pet room? I was quite appalled by his answer. We travel extensively with our dog as do many many other people, and it is now expected that dog friendly rooms be the same quality as a non pet friendly room. Especially with a higher room rate.
We were given $25.00 off our bill, which basically is just the dog fee. I am torn about whether to stay here again after this experience.

“Great Night Sleep, Breakfeast and Great Staff”

We stayed overnight on Christmas Eve and found our stay to be a pleasant surprise. So good that we plan on staying again in April on our way down to N.C. and return trip. Kenneth and Elizabeth on the front desk were excellent in making us feel at home. The room was extra large, best we have ever stayed. Well off the noisy highway for a great night sleep. The breakfeast was more than can be imagined. Anything and everything you could ever want for a morning meal to get you on the road.
