We needed a place to spend the night, and Exit 44 in Beckley WV seemed a good spot to get good bargains. This place seemed as good as any other, and had a good price -- $55 grand total for one night in a queen bed. Room was clean and fully stocked. This included full bath, air conditioning, phone, radio, free wi-fi, free continental breakfast, hair dryer, coffee-maker, in-room iron, and 50-channel TV. Motel was less than a kilometer from the main highway and surrounded by chain restaurants and stores, but was surprisingly quiet. A 24-hour convenience store is next door if you need munchies. Not much charm or soul in the neighborhood, but we weren't looking for any. Staff was professional and courteous -- just be aware that being called "honey" by a desk clerk is politeness, not flirtation.
Parking is free and plentiful once you find the lot behind the Dairy Queen.
The continental breakfast was the minimal of coffee, juice, cereal, and toast -- and all were almost gone by 9:30. If you want something more, take the money you saved by staying here and go to one of the nearby restaurants.
Our second story room was right next door to the door to the outside stairs. As noted in the photo, there is NO lock on this door.
The shed-like building in the middle of the parking lot contains a hot tub. Note that there is NO lock or supervision of this building. Anyone, including young children, could easily enter this room. Parents may need to watch their youngsters even more than usual.
If, like us, you just need a place to sleep while going somewhere else, this place is quite a good value for the price.
