I guess the "for sale" sign should have been a dead give away as to the quality of this inn.
We made our reservations at the Anne Starrett for a romantic getaway. When we called to make a reservation, we asked for one of the nicest rooms. We booked the most expensive room that was to have a fireplace and large soaking tub.
When we arrived, we were dismayed to find that the room we had reserved was not in the mansion itself (which is a beautiful building), but across the street in a beach house looking structure (but without the beach). The room seemed clean, but the theme was tacky and overdone. The mattress was lumpy and the furniture, worn.
The fireplace did not work. Since there are no phones, we had to go back across the street to talk with the night inn keeper about the fireplace. He argued with us about the right way to turn on the fireplace! We went back to the room and tried to turn it on the "right way". After, serveral attempts, we went back to the innkeeper. After making several beseeching requests, the innkeeper came over to our room to help. He was also unable to turn on the fireplace. The came the bath. The enormous bath only filled up a couple inches before the water turned from hot, to lukewarm, to cold. This is despite the fact that we had a large, very noisy water heater in our room.
There were also long periods of time when there was no staff available in between when the night innkeeper left and the day innkeeper/owner arrived. And no one was there to help us checkout. We ended up paying a ridiculous amount of money to this place. We had booked two nights. DON'T STAY HERE
