“Sisters surprise”

8 of us stayed in one of the Officers Homes only for one night. We had been on a cruise to Alaska and stopped in Port Townsend on our way back to Vancouver Washington. My sister, who has visited Pt.Townsend in the past, booked the house. She was worried that we would not like it but she was wrong. It was a really good alternative to a motel for the night. We were able to be together as a group and enjoy sitting round the enormous dining table to play some games. The history and the setting were great. The continental breakfast in the morning was also good. If you only like plush and modern then this would not be for you. It was something different and as 6 of us were visiting from England a little taste of American history.

“Really Historic Lodging”

Six of us just stayed this past weekend (September 30-October 2) in one of the "apartments" of the BOQ on Officer's Row. We had 2 couples and two teens, and there were 4 bedrooms, room enough for everyone. Our unit was incredibly huge, with a long hallway that we thought was like something from "the Shining". The rooms were quite large, with big walk-in closets, the bathroom fully and beautifully renovated, the kitchen old but well-equipped, with a sitting room, porch and dining room. Like I said, really big! It must be nice, because we saw that the Governor was also staying here overnight.
The staff are charming, and made us feel very welcome. Yes, the place could use some art on the walls, and maybe some paint color, but it was so unique and historical that it didn't matter. I wish they had some nice chairs on the porch, but you can bring the dining chairs out. The beds are small and lumpy, but it was worth it to be in such a historic lodging. Of course, the grounds are gorgeous in the early autumn. Bring lots of people, and have a great time!

Room Tip: Skip the continental breakfast, and bring your own coffee and breakfast food.

“History abounds”

A favorite get away of ours Ft Worden offers a step back in time set along the rugged coastal beauty of the entrance to the Puget Sound. Most of the military facilities were constructed in the early 1900s and reamin in excellent condition. Officers and NCO quarters and barracks have that authentic late Victorian feel. The Park offers many interesting historical artifacts, from coastal gun batteries placed stategically in defense of the Sound to the old Light House. Long walks along the beach, hiking up and along the gun implacements and touring the park's museums provides unique and interesting adventures.

Check in was efficent and the park's staff friendly. Prices are a little on the high side but understandable considering the environment you are surrounded by. We will return.

“True Bliss”

We stayed in the "Bliss House" at Fort Worden State Park. My two daughters (ages 7 &9) had an incredible time. The house was perfect for what we were looking for. There was a one bedroom and then a separate room with just a single bed where my 9 year old slept. The kitchen and living area were very spacious. Best of all was the AMAZING view. We were on the bluff over looking the most beautiful coast (the Admiralty inlet). Sunrise was a sight to see. The birds in the morning were aplenty.
Bring your flashlights if you have kids. My girls explored every battery in the park. One day we biked and the next we hiked. After stop at Waterfront Pizza downtown Port Townsend. Good Stuff!

“Worden is Wonderful!”

Three of us stayed in the three bedroom unit 336 for two nights and it was very spacious and clean. The house is right next to the hiking trails which gave it a woodsy, faraway feel. The grounds of the state park are beautiful, with great views every where you look and deer coming through in the morning. The lighthouse is a fun walk, and the beach is perfect for sunset strolls. Port Townsend is a ten minute drive, with lots of places for eating (if you don't bring food) and shopping. Overall, we loved our time there and hope to go back soon.
