“We'll be back the next time we're in Port Townsend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2010

We stayed at The Belmont for an extended Memorial Day weekend trip. We were in one of the street view rooms, not the beach view rooms that have the lofts that several have complained about. Nothing to say about the size of the lofts. We appreciated the attempts the Belmont has made to keep to the original feel of the hotel. Including the brick walls, the very high ceilings, the pleasant furnishings. The bathrooms are also quite big, more than enough room for two people. The wifi service in the room was spotty, we found it worked best if you were in a chair, not in bed. Nothing to complain about. It's true that the rooms have no television, but we don't find that to be a negative. We also had the opportunity to speak to the owner more than once during our stay and we found him to be friendly, helpful and professional. We also ate at the restaurant for a couple of meals, review in the food section. We'll be staying at the Belmont in the future.

“Mislead, overpriced don't venture there...crying shame”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2010

I reserved and paid for this room at the Belmont several months in advance of my son's wedding. I asked for a room to sleep 4 which technically I received only was not told that 2 of us would have to climb a ladder to reach our bed and then remember not to stand up! I paid $149 a night + tax way over priced Shocked to see we had to enter from the street and that there would not be any front desk for any sort of reference once the "saloon" was closed for the night. Linens were worn but appeared to be clean. The morning of the wedding I awoke to take a shower no hot water so I thought I'll run the tub full surely I would get hot water if I gave it time no such luck I bathed in tepid water. The carpet was very worn and bleached out spots as well as big huge greasy black marks The room was very noisy from the room next door not from the saloon below as it was closed.
The view is spectacular and the hotel could have been quite charasmatic if someone cared! The person I reported the hot water issue to really did not seem to care basically implied I was either lying or nuts! Bonus my event was theday before Mother's Day ...the fellow was staining the deck I suppose to be nice for Sunday's festivities staining right over the bird poop!

For that amount of money it should have been better....shame on the management Definitely is not recommended by me as part of beautiful Port Townsend

“This is a DUMP, cold showers & terrible customer service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2010

Lets see, dissapointed, no hot water, to take a shower or bath this morning. Had to locate someone that worked there, told them we had no hot water & the man went into a room, came out & then came into our room and said see there is hot water. So you probably want to request hot water at check in, so you don't have to go down & look for someone to turn the hot water on. The man whom came to look @ the water problem, basically thought we were lying. Linens were dirty. Carpet icky!!! NO TV. Dangerous window/door, would not recommend this place to anyone, especially if you have children, accident waiting to happen. Way to many different kinds of wallpapers, Loft/ladder is kinda dangerous, especially, if your getting ready in the morning, I bumped my head on the ladder, due to the ladder being to close to the only mirror in the room. Toilet ran continuously. The whole hotel smelled funky, moldy? WAY over priced, it is a DUMP.
The view is spectactular, that is the only positive thing I can say about our stay, oh and the location is great, in the heart of the town.

“Not Worth It”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2009

I have to believe that if skyscrapers can keep bird crap off of their windows, that the Belmont could manage to do it as well. If the toilet, that is not an antique, barely flushes, it must be fought with. The handle is about to fall off. When you do manage to get it to flush it spits at you. There are cracks and holes in the wall and ceiling. The towels do not look or smell clean. The board that they have covered what was once a window in the building is disgusting, it needs to be cleaned and or painted. It is not an original part of the building, and if it were we do not need to keep antique dirt. There is a horrible musty smell around the entire place.
It is a shame really, it has a lot of potential. It is obvious that it was made into a hotel by someone who actually cared about it at one point, and is now run by people interested only in collecting rates that are to high for what you now get. It has great tall ceilings, and a cute little loft, except for the horrible sense of neglect that it gives off. The furniture that is in the room is very appropriate.
It feels like you are paying to dollar to watch the further disintegration of what could be a grand building. That it is old isn't the cause. I have also stayed in the Palace Hotel across the way which is wonderful, and takes you back in time.
Avoid the Belmont until they decide to treat that building with the respect and dignity it is suited to demand.

“Bring your own towels and you'll do just fine...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2008

I recently stayed at the Belmont with my husband, mother, and two children and we found the room spacious and nicely decorated. My children loved the bed up in the loft, and the adults all enjoyed the view of the water. The place itself definitely looks like it's been around since the 1880's (warning: the 25+ stairs and the balcony door without the balcony may not be for everyone!), but we found its quirks charming. The beds have down comforters and are super-snuggly, so we left the outside door open and fell asleep with fresh air and the sound of quiet waves. Nice! :-)

Our only real complaint (and this will be a deal-breaker for some) was that the towels smelled musty. After drying our hands, it smelled like we'd been working in a damp basement for hours and hours! Luckily, we had towels of our own... and a roll of paper towels to keep by the sink. So bring those necessities, and you will have it made.
