“Nice location, decent quarters”

The plusses about the Shilo in are first it's location right in the middle of the city and right next to the beach access road. Second, the rooms are all ocean view with balconies. Each room also has a small mini kitchen with small fridge, microwave, sink, dining room table etc. Nothing fancy other than that. The pool was okay. The hotel has a restaurant that seemed like it came out of the 70's. The lobby is nice, but for some reason many of the floor tiles were loose and when you walked on them, wobbled. Overall we had a decent stay. There weren't too many negatives, but nothing to write home about either. Would stay there again.

Room Tip: The higher floor the better the view, but I wouldn't pay extra for it. They all look out at the...

“Good View”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

First off...people should lighten up a little when reviewing hotels in these teeny-tiny towns in rural, economically depressed areas. The rooms are dated. The tv's are not flat-screen, but there are 3...including one in the bathroom! The beds were comfortable, the room was very clean. The fireplaces, which used to be gas, if I remember correctly, are about my only complaint. they are on a noisy "ticky-ticky" (think sauna-esque) timer, and there is no heat that comes out. It is simply a piece of plastic with a bulb behind it. the microwave and mini-fridge were great to have in the room. Continental breakfast was average, and we were able to take food back to our room to eat. the desk staff were excellent, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The view from the balcony was amazing, we enjoyed watching the deer in the morning. People should know that there is an extra charge for upper level rooms, which I personally don't mind paying, as I never once heard the pitter patter (thump crash bang) of anyone above us. Nice pool/hot tub, and the aquarium that makes the wall between the lobby and pool area is really spectacular.

Room Tip: Spend the extra ten dollars and get a top-floor room.

Dear Veronica,

Thank you for your kind words regarding your stay with us. Our staff is very friendly, helpful, and service oriented. They take pride in their work, their hotel, and the positive experience every guest takes away with them when they check out. Cleanliness and comfort are very important in a resort experience and I am so happy that we were able to provide that to you. Like you, I also find the views from the balcony of the ocean and wildlife in the dunes an amazing sight. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with us, and we hope to see you again very soon.

“Very nice room. Food was excellent!”

We stayed for a couple of nights between Christmas and New Years. We had a small suite on the ground level in a room in which they would allow our 2 dogs. We had orignally planned to stay longer but we cut our trip short by 1 night because it was just too noisy and not very restful. Admittedly, our dogs contributed to the noise. Someone in the room above us was very noisy in the middle of both nights causing our dogs to bark frequently. Because we had our dogs with us we used room service for dinner on both nights. The razor clams were excellent and the room service was very prompt and pleasant. It's a very nice resort. I would recommend to anyone unless you have noisy dogs.

Dear champagnecaviar,

Thank you so much for sharing your Shilo experience with us. We are pleased that you enjoyed the suite you were in, and that your room service was prompt and enjoyable. I agree with you that our razor clams are excellent, and are one of my favorites on the menu. In fact, on March 24th the Ocean Shores Razor Clam Festival will be held at the Ocean Shores Convention Center. Many of the area restaurants participate in competition cooking and clam chowder cook off, so the festival goers have lots of opportunity to sample all manner of razor clam culinary delights! You should try to come back to Ocean Shores for it!

I am sorry you felt it necessary to cut your stay short. The next time you visit with your dogs, we will put you in a guest room with no one in the room above, if there is that availability. We are a "Dog Friendly" facility, and love our canine friends. Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to see you again very soon.

“Fun Weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We booked a last minute trip to Ocean Shores to see the Arctic Owls which were on Damon Point. We got a great AAA rate - King bed jr suite overlooking the dunes and the ocean. Hotel was clean, room was very nice with fridge, microwave, fake fireplace and a table & chairs for cards. We didn't spend a lot of time in our room as we were only there one night but would definitely book again. Convenient to stores with an easy walk, and if you want to go to the casino, they send a shuttle to pick you up. Staff wasn't overly friendly, but absolutely no hassle with getting an early check-in, on a Saturday!

Room Tip: pay a few $'s extra to be on 3rd or 4th floor -- we were on the 3rd and you get a much better vi...

“Wild and Windy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

I liked this hotel because of its location. It looks out towards the ocean and because it's in an exposed situation it has a windswept feel even in summer. Our room was very comfortable with a balcony looking out to sea.
