The owners of this hotel appeared to have made a large effort to remodel and upgrade this hotel so that it does not reflect it's orginal age inside and out. The couple that were at the front desk on the morning of our checkout were very polite and professional.
Unfortunately, we were visiting family in the area with our twin infants, one who was born underweight and had health issues because of this. I booked this hotel because the reviews indicated it was clean. When we arrived a young girl was at the front desk apparently finishing up a personal call while we waiting. At the room I found a large outdoor ash can (similar to those you find in front of restaurants) bolted outside of our room. Our room did not have a non-smoking symbol. I went to the front and again had to wait for her to finish a personal phone call and told her that there was a mistake and that we received a smoking room. She said that there was no way that we could change because it would be a lot of work for her. I pointed out that we had arrived early on a summer evening (at 7 p.m.) and the parking lot was almost empty indicating that many guests have not arrived yet. The she told me that it is a hassle for her to switch people around and when a guest books only one night, you just get whatever is available regardless of what you book. So, I asked if I could borrow tools such as a screwdriver to remove the large ash can temporarily. She said no. So I asked if I could go to Walmart across the street to purchase a screwdriver to remove the ash can and she said that we would be charged for damaging the hotel's property. So I tied a poopy diaper to the top of the ash can. When my husband returned at 10 p.m. from a shopping trip to Walmart (no, he did not buy a screwdriver), we found several cigarette butts put out in the diaper! They were all of the same brand and some were not completely finished -so must be someone with money to waste.
I would also like to note that the carpet was very dirty. We wore socks in the room and the bottom of our socks were almost completely black. Yuck!

Dear 36sunflowers:
We take our guest comments very seriously, and we are very sorry your stay did not meet certain standards. Recently we transformed 100% of the hotel to Non Smoking Rooms. Some of our guests are smokers, and inorder to accomodate them we installed ashtrays outside, near the rooms to ensure the rooms remain smoke free. On occassion we do have guests who do not comply with the smoking ban and decide to smoke in the room. This makes it very difficult for our staff members to police and very uncomfortable for our non smoking guests. Our staff members work exceptionally hard to ensure your stay is enjoyable and comfortable. Again we are very sorry for the hardship you endured and we would welcome any further details of your stay so that we may improve on all of the shortcomings. Please call us directly to discuss.
Sincerely,
Doug Whitcher
