We stayed at this Inn for two nights in March. The front desk lady was very nice, but uninformed. She told us we could find "fine dining' at "Mulligan's". When we finally found Mulligan's we discovered that one, it was the restaurant for a golf course nearer to Othello than Moses Lake, and two, it wasn't open for restaurant business. Nor had it been open to serve food in "quite a while".
The Inn itself is nice and clean. It smells new. Our room was clean, and while it was near the highway side of the building, it was relatively quiet.
The free breakfast was your typical motel fare: cereals, a couple English muffins, etc. The coffee was so so, but hot. The kitchen attendant was most attentive: he kept popping in to make sure the waffle iron was clean, that the juice machine was full, etc.
It was when we got into bed that we found that there are problems with their housekeeping staff.
I pulled down the comforter and the sheet and found a rolled up, obviously used kleenex.
Ick. My husband, with his typical aplomb, just batted it to the floor and got into bed. Me, I had the creepiecrawlies all night. Either the housekeeper, who had a cold, had left it in the bed while she was making it, or worse, it was left by the previous customer who'd used the bed. That means the housekeeper hadn't bothered to change the sheets. This makes my skin crawl right now.
I suppose I could have asked for another room. But it was very late, we were pooped out, had already taken showers, and by the way,the housekeeper is the same one for the other rooms, too.
So I thought, well, I'll leave her a note about the kleenex.
But there was no notepad, at least, not that I could find.
The next night, we got in to the room even later. This time there were no kleenex in the bed. I bet it was still on the floor, but I won't swear to this.
There was, however, a piece of paper on the floor that had been hidden by the comforter. This had been left over from the last tenant, too.
This time, there was a card from the housekeeper, prominently displayed next to the alarm clock.
It said that it had been her pleasure to serve us and if we had forgotten anything, to please check at the front desk. It was signed Rebekah S. and had a boomerang shaped symbol next to her name. I suppose it was meant to be a heart, but if it were, someone "had stomped that sucker flat".
This was obvious Rebekah S was angling for a tip.
Now, normally, if the room is clean and the housekeeper obviously doing her job, I leave a tip. In this case, I did not. In fact, as Rebekah had neglected to actually check and clean the room, I wrote a brief synopsis of why she wasn't getting a tip on the back of the card, that being I don't like finding used kleenex in a bed.
I left it with the keycard when we checked out, with the person at the front desk. The woman looked curiously at it, and then set it aside. I have no idea if she actually read it or not.
I don't expect an apology from the staff.
Therefore, I am expressing my dissatisfaction here. If the staff reads this, they need to know that Rebekah is going to cost them a lot of business. She either needs to be retrained in how to do the simple task of stripping a bed and cleaning a room, or she needs to find less challenging work.
And teach her where one puts one's used tissues. In the trash basket, NOT a bed!
