I've stayed at this hotel twice now and will never stay there again. I decided to give it a second chance as there are few hotels in Monroe so you have few options. Next time I'll stay in a neighboring town.
Where do I begin...let's start with the management or lack thereof. I had some problems with our rooms and talked to the front desk. They are basically young kids who don't know much and don't have the authority to do anything. I asked to talk to the manager, Brandon Shelton, but of course he wasn't around and the front desk wouldn't give me a number to contact him. They told me they would contact him on my behalf and then the front desk called me back saying Brandon couldn't help me. In fact, they said Brandon was not going to call me back. It's one thing if you make an effort to address my problem and can't but it's another thing if you can't even be bothered to call me. Thanks for nothing Brandon.
Rooms - Pretty minimal, nothing fancy or upscale here.Walls paper thin. As you lay in bed, the A/C and heater sounds like a jet engine next to your head.
Pets - This is the dog hotel of Monroe so bring your pets. Last year, I had to call the front desk because of the dogs barking in the middle of the night in the room next to me. This year, I just saw dogs in the lobby and breakfast room.
Breakfast - OK if you are only staying a day or 2 and like cerial. While the breakfast bar looks ok, you definately would not eat most of it except that it is free.
Safety - If it's snowy, recognize that getting the lot ploughed may not management's top priorty. When I was there last year, you had to struggle through the slippery unploughed lot to get to the front door. Also, hotel management likes to park under the portico in front of the hotel so they don't need to struggle through the parking lot or scrape ice off their winshield. Unfortunately, that restricts guest access to the front door to load and unload their luggage.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

We apologize our supervisor who did assist you during your stay was insufficient for you. A manager would have been happy to speak with you. When we talked to you weeks in advance of your stay, it was requested that you have an ADA compliant room. As we informed you then, all we had was standard rooms available, but we gladly gave you a free upgrade to a Suite room to try and accommodate your needs and help you to be more comfortable. You happily accepted the upgrade. When you notified us on the second day of your stay that you wanted to move rooms, unfortunately, we were sold out and were not able to grant your request. We truly do attempt to satisfy every guests request. This particular request just could not be done as there were no available rooms to move into. If I recall correctly, the issue you told us with your room was the tub. You needed a handicap accessible tub. We offered to add a bench seat to the shower to try and help. Again we are very sorry for any inconvenience you experienced.
As for the other previously unknown complaints: We were the only hotel in Monroe to have our lot plowed when needed in 2008. During 2008 when we had that winter blast and the entire state was in a "state of emergency" we had our lot plowed several days in a row, but due to continual snow our parking lot did become quite a snowy/icy mess. All of our sidewalks are treated with ice melt and shoveled as well to help ensure guest safety.
As far as parking is concerned. All employees are required to park in the back of the parking lot to ensure guests get the priority spots. The Portico is a loading zone where no employees or management park.
Our breakfast has fresh cinnabons, waffles, fruit, cereal, sausage links, hard boiled eggs, a variety of fresh muffins, and bagels/pastries/toast, oatmeal, and teas/juice/milk/water/coffee. Most of the tasty delights and even some healthy options giving a complete meal for anyone. If you have a request, we are happy to listen, just please fill out a comment card so we are aware of it.
And yes, we are a pet friendly hotel. Pets are welcome, but are not allowed to be left unattended in the room. No animals are allowed in the breakfast area unless it is a certified service dog.
Again, we are sorry for any inconvenience you may have experienced. We invite you to read our other reviews and those of the other hotels in the area. We take pride in having the best service around and strive to satisfy every guest. We would be happy to give you a special offer to give us another chance in the future. Just call or write us anytime and we would be happy to assist.
