Man, the location is right, the building is well kept, and the price isn't too bad for the high end BnB scene, so why am I giving Edenwild two stars? The hosts. They like running a BnB, they like keeping the house, they just don't like the guests.

Following the advice of traveler extrodinare Rick Steves, I ask to take a quick peek at the room before we settle in and run a card. The response?
"You can, but you're gonna pay for it one way or another."
Okay, that is a little awkward and hostile, but let's see if we can't just muddle through. Nope, halfway up the stairs I'm told that, "you know, it is an insult to us to ask to see the room." And in that false cheerful voice that you'd expect from a nervous substitute middle school teacher.
I try to smooth things over with smile and a nice, "well, it is just something we do out of habit, we don't mean anything personal by it." This shouldn't be necessary, but it doesn't even work, as the fake niceness wears off and a blatantly passive aggressive, "well, it is just one of those things that gets to me," gets spat in my direction.

All this said, the rooms really are fine, and the location is quite good. So, if you want a place to stay in Lopez, and don't mind interacting with the hospitality/customer service fail squad, it really is an okay place. If such vibes are gonna make you I'll at ease, I'd skip it and move along down the road.

Spacious rooms, comfortable beds; but the bathtub/shower takes more than a little agility and balance to manage. Great breakfast and good location. The "Victorian" spirit is a bit overdone, but that seems to be a part of most B&Bs.

What a lovely inn. My husband and I just returned from a trip to the San Juans and the Edenwild was certainly one of the high points. Gracious innkeepers, fabulous breakfasts (I mean really fabulous!) and a superb location in the picturesque village of Lopez. We especially enjoyed bicycling the island (on bikes provided at no charge with expert advice on routes and scenic attractions.)

Very clean like grandmother’s house, but the owner was very overbearing!
I can't believe she was rearranging guests silverware while they ate!
She had her own way of doing things, that I found way too much. Too much hovering and she rearranged our belongings in our room. It was funny in a sad kind of way.
