My wife and I made reservations over a month in advance for a room in late May by phone. We were traveling the Pacific Coast highway and drove from Seattle down into Hoquiam that evening arriving around 7:45pm. It was raining. The lights were out in the house but I could see someone in a far back room like a kitchen. Knocked on the door and called the number on the front door dozens of times but he would not come to the door. My wife came up to the porch and he was at the window as she peered in but quickly ran to the back of the house. We left, came back about 20 minutes later, same result. The place was dark except for that back room area. No returned phone calls. I left a note on the door and drove in the dark and rain over to Ocean City to find a room. Terrible experience. Don't bother. Pictures look nice but it was sandwiched on a hill between a bunch of run down homes.

We felt like a price and princess in the King Room on our honeymoon. The breakfast was super yummy. Innkeepers were friendly and helpful. We loved touring the castle/mansion and discovering all the hidden gems such as the balconies, the guest rooms, the third level original ornate carved wood bar area. Excellent views from every window it seems, as the B&B sits atop a hill over-looking the town below.

We read about the place in the AAA guide book and decided to stay there for our anniversary during our tour of northwest Washington. On the outside, the B&B looks more like a big mansion than a castle but it is still huge. We were given a lengthy tour prior to checking in and were told that we could have our choice of rooms since were the only guests that evening – we took the “King” room. It was very large with a comfortable king-size bed. The only minor problem was that the place was so full of antiques that we had few places to put our stuff. But we still felt like royalty. The castle is more like a museum and must have several hundred thousand dollars worth of antiques. It would take several hours to look in all the nooks and crannies at the exhibits. There was no television in our room but the hostess told us we could have access to the entire building, including the 3rd floor where a large bar and lounge was located, including a television. We brought in some dinner and wine and were able to watch our team on Monday night football. In the morning, we got up and found our coffee waiting for us in the dining room. A little before 9, our places were set at the dining room table and we had orange juice and large, delicious fruit plates. That was followed by hash brown potatoes and eggs benedict (made with large pork sausage patties instead of Canadian bacon). Delicious. Our stay was rather expensive but it was still an experience we’ll never forget.

This is an interesting hotel.
Maybe its being British but allegedly the Americans love this late 19th century mansion. The interior décor is over the top and crowded with early 20th century artefacts, we had an antique dolls pram in our bathroom. The hotel ambience is a cross between the Addams Family meets Bates Hotel. In our room, the Princess Suite, we had a number of dolls posted around the room, it looked like the set of the movie Chucky. But overall the B&B was clean and tidy, bed was comfortable and the breakfast substantial. Please don’t take my word for it, visit this B&B with a difference.
