Well, this was certainly one of the more interesting stays I have had anywhere. There was an unfortunate mistake that landed me there to begin with. Months previous, I purchased concert tickets for a couple of nights at The Gorge ampitheater. When I went online to map out where the venue was, it came up with a location about 17 miles from this B & B (thanks Google maps). So, the whole time we are thinking how great it was to score something so close and unique...then a few days before leaving Denver to drive up to the shows, the realization came that we were wrong and this B & B is nowhere remotely close to the venue! I had already paid $365 for 3 nights at the B & B, but we were talking about adding 9 hours of driving to our already busy agenda. Panicked, I called Vel, the owner, and explained the situation. Now...here is where things get a bit interesting. I asked her about the cancellation policy, and she told me that it was too late and I would get no money back at all. I admit that this is my mistake, and I understand that the innkeeper can't just eat the whole $365 and hope to rent it out again in a matter of a couple of days...but damn lady, have a heart!!! At least she wouldn't have to clean up after us or serve us any food, so you'd think that maybe she would feel a little compassion and at least offer some of our money back...but nope, she is truly all business. The other thing that struck me is that, instead of showing any sort of sympathy to our situation when speaking to her on the phone, she immediately wanted to know 'what we were planning to do'...like whether we would be there at all or not. I wonder why this was of such interest? Maybe try to rent out or paid room for a few extra bucks? Hmmm. I don't know, I was a bit turned off by her attitude about it all.
Anyway, we decided we had to go to the place for at least the first night since the shows didn't begin until the next evening. The place is tucked back in the woods, it's a pretty cool location. We show up and look around for about 15 -20 minutes, nobody to be seen. We ended up knocking on the door to one of the units, and a woman came out saying she was a renter but Vel was taking a nap somewhere. We looked around for a while and found her sleeping in a screen tent under a tree near the woods. It was very awkward to awaken her, but we had just drove for over 24 hours and really wanted to get settled in. Vel seemed friendly enough, which sort of surprised me after the whole phone experience, but also detached. In any case, the room was fine, no real complaints. Nothing fancy but not a dump. The bed was a bit uncomfortable, but I've had worse. The breakfast was a bit lacking but it was as advertised. We did get to enjoy a hot tub at least, that was nice.
I guess the overall experience was worth having, but I couldn't help feel taken advantage of. I never expected my money back, but at least maybe a small portion of it. I know that if the situation were reversed, I would have done that for someone. Guess I'm kinda weird that way.
I don't have any plans to go back, but can't say that others might not enjoy it. Just don't break your leg before you leave lol.
