“Stole our money & offended us!”

We made reservations for this place, and it turned out to not be anything of what we expected. The lady lives right above where you're staying. The cabin in the picture is more like a big shed and not what it's made out to be. There was a lot of miscommunication and upon our arrival we there was no where to park and she made us shovel our way out of the snow after one of our cars had gotten stuck in her "parking lot". The lady there is extremely rude and was upset that we had six people staying there when there was room enough for all of us. She wanted us to pay extra and told us we couldn't afford it. Oh, and just so you know she only accepts cash. So be careful!! She will not give you your money back if you hand it to her. We left and stayed at Mt. Baker Lodging, and rented a condo for a much cheaper price and it was a lot better. Beware!!!!

Room Tip: DO NOT GO HERE! go to Mt. Baker Lodging. its MUCH better. :)

“clean and comfy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

Clean and comfy
We came to the great northwest to hike the many trails available in the area. Our favorite was the Goat Mountain Trail. Our B&B host was very friendly and welcoming. She was very knowledgeable of the many trails in the area and guided us to not only a wonderful hike but also some local walking areas along the river. We had access to a fridge and microwave right out side out door. Our room was clean and comfy and I got one of the best nights sleep in a long time. It was so quiet and peaceful. Our breakfast was served continental and was simple with fresh fruit, yogurt, milk, cereal, juice and coffee, but a great start to the day. What I liked the best about the breakfast was that we were able to sleep late and have our breakfast at our leisure whenever we wanted. Although it was the least expensive lodging in the area, it was well worth the price. After our day hiking we came back to a very clean hot tub that had a view of Mt Baker. We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in room #2 that had a private patio with table and chairs.

This is a great little town, but this is not the place to stay. B & B? More like "Room & Cold Cereal" The room was overpriced, the "host" was nowhere to be found, there was no common area, the "breakfast" was a joke, and it was not a welcoming experience. We would have been better off camping. I have stayed in B & Bs all over the world -- I am sorry to say that this was probably the worst value I have ever had for a B & B.

“Though some positives, felt taken advantage of”

Well, this was certainly one of the more interesting stays I have had anywhere. There was an unfortunate mistake that landed me there to begin with. Months previous, I purchased concert tickets for a couple of nights at The Gorge ampitheater. When I went online to map out where the venue was, it came up with a location about 17 miles from this B & B (thanks Google maps). So, the whole time we are thinking how great it was to score something so close and unique...then a few days before leaving Denver to drive up to the shows, the realization came that we were wrong and this B & B is nowhere remotely close to the venue! I had already paid $365 for 3 nights at the B & B, but we were talking about adding 9 hours of driving to our already busy agenda. Panicked, I called Vel, the owner, and explained the situation. Now...here is where things get a bit interesting. I asked her about the cancellation policy, and she told me that it was too late and I would get no money back at all. I admit that this is my mistake, and I understand that the innkeeper can't just eat the whole $365 and hope to rent it out again in a matter of a couple of days...but damn lady, have a heart!!! At least she wouldn't have to clean up after us or serve us any food, so you'd think that maybe she would feel a little compassion and at least offer some of our money back...but nope, she is truly all business. The other thing that struck me is that, instead of showing any sort of sympathy to our situation when speaking to her on the phone, she immediately wanted to know 'what we were planning to do'...like whether we would be there at all or not. I wonder why this was of such interest? Maybe try to rent out or paid room for a few extra bucks? Hmmm. I don't know, I was a bit turned off by her attitude about it all.

Anyway, we decided we had to go to the place for at least the first night since the shows didn't begin until the next evening. The place is tucked back in the woods, it's a pretty cool location. We show up and look around for about 15 -20 minutes, nobody to be seen. We ended up knocking on the door to one of the units, and a woman came out saying she was a renter but Vel was taking a nap somewhere. We looked around for a while and found her sleeping in a screen tent under a tree near the woods. It was very awkward to awaken her, but we had just drove for over 24 hours and really wanted to get settled in. Vel seemed friendly enough, which sort of surprised me after the whole phone experience, but also detached. In any case, the room was fine, no real complaints. Nothing fancy but not a dump. The bed was a bit uncomfortable, but I've had worse. The breakfast was a bit lacking but it was as advertised. We did get to enjoy a hot tub at least, that was nice.

I guess the overall experience was worth having, but I couldn't help feel taken advantage of. I never expected my money back, but at least maybe a small portion of it. I know that if the situation were reversed, I would have done that for someone. Guess I'm kinda weird that way.

I don't have any plans to go back, but can't say that others might not enjoy it. Just don't break your leg before you leave lol.

“Reasonably priced and clean but disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2011

The place is clean and convenient to reach the Mt. Baker ski area; however, attention to basic detail is lacking. Although this place is termed a B&B, they do not provide breakfast in a common area where the various guests congregate to eat. That's fine, since I don't particularly care to 'break bread' with a bunch of strangers in the morning when all I'd prefer to do is nurse my coffee by myself or with my wife. The only problem is that if that's the way you're going to run your B&B, then at least provide all the breakfast food at the in-room fridge before your guests arrive (i.e. so they don't have to guess what the heck is going on). That's not the end of the world; however, probably the most disappointing aspect was that they did not bus the dirty dishes or make up the room while we were gone skiing for the day. The room was not that big to begin with, so it was quite a bummer to have a bin full of dirty breakfast dishes in the small living/kithen room. They didn't even make up the bed and nor empty the single garbage bin.

It was also really frustrating that the owner required full payment IN CASH upon check-in, even though she took my credit card number when I made the reservation. Rather lame that the outdated web-site for her B&B had no system for reserving online.

The one saving grace about this place was that the hot tub was really nice for two people (my wife and I) - especially after a day of skiing. I also used it in the morning a few hours before we left. I don't know how great it would be, however, if the occupants of the two other rooms had wanted to use it at the same time as us?

Bottom line: if you want a full-service B&B, don't stay at this place. If all you need is a no-frills, clean joint to rest the night before skiing and then plan to head back home after skiing, stay at this place.
