“A View to Die for, A Venue to Avoid”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2010

I found the Aloha B&B online when searching for wedding venues that were local, and potentially affordable. When I contacted the owner she seemed nice and quoted me 845 for a wedding and we set up an appointment to view the place. We fell in love with the venue, and were shocked to find out there were additional fees (venue rental fee 1000, room rental for each night 845, set up fee 350 etc.). We decided this must be standard (first mistake) and decided to do a deposit for our wedding the next day. Over the course of planning for the wedding the owner didn't return phone calls, no showed to scheduled appointments to discuss menu TWICE, and when we were discussing food costs she quoted us the top price she would charge for a meal which would be expensive steak or seafood and told us our meal wouldn't be that price at all but lower. When we were finally able to pin her down to discuss a menu, she again told us our meal would cost less than originally quoted. When she finally got back to us (two weeks later) the price was exactly the top cost of meals. After a lot of haggling, we just settled and paid the higher price because we were now one month away from our wedding and had no other option. The owner ceased responding to emails alltogether, and when we arrived at the venue the night before the wedding there was no warm reception from the main owner, but her husband was very kind. The rooms were not cleaned well (spiders, and hair from the prior guests in the bathroom), and when my bridesmaids went to check into their rooms the beds hadn't been made (still not sure if they got clean sheets or not.) My family decorated the venue while the wedding party got ready and got delayed by the venue owner not wanting table cloths put out on the tables (the only reason to rent the rooms the night before was to get the venue ready in the morning instead of check in time at 3pm.) The food was out already when the ceremony ended, and my new husband and I led the line to eat. I was shocked to find out that over half the agreed upon menu was not correct. She had charged us 30 dollars per person for Costco Rolls, Ceaser salad from costco, a pasta salad with italian dressing, no sauce for the now very cold chicken cordon bleu, no cherries (only request) for the fruit tray, and mushrooms covering the pork. Simple recipes for the salad, pasta, sauce were given and agreed to. The owner didn't bother to warn us she had made changes, nor did she ensure there were no food allergies. We were upset, but ate what was provided as it was too late and the guests were eating. I asked repeatedly for a bill itemized prior to the wedding (months in advance), and again when I arrived at the venue and was turned away. When we finally got the bill (After the wedding was over) the owner still hadn't commended on her switch-a-roo.
In the end, our wedding was beautiful, the setting was pristine, but I would never recommend this place to a bride to be or casual traveler. The "Jacuzzi" is a bathtub not a jetted bath, the floors weren't cleaned in the dining area or bathrooms, and the owner was innapropriate the majority of the time. Please save yourself the trouble of dealing with this place.

“Absolutely Horrible”

My husband finally got two consecutive nights off of work (after trying for 2 years) so we could use the gift certificate our friends got us for a wedding gift. When we called to work out a weekend with Lalaine (the owner), she would only book us on "off" weekends - not at all during May, June, or July because there might be a wedding and certainly not on Valentine's Day weekend. When we arrived at 3 pm (the time she told us she would be there waiting to greet us), there was only one housekeeper there who was surprised at our arrival. The whole place was in disarray with cleaning supplies and mops and brooms and toilet paper astrewn the floor. Magazines were just thrown on the coffee tables, and there were dead insects on the window sills! There were also dead leaves all over the kitchen floor, and the blinds and the screen were slashed and broken in our room. The heat wasn't on so it was ice cold, we weren't given a key so our belongings were unprotected while we were out getting dinner, and when we returned the lights lining the very steep staircase down to the cabana were not on. We could have broken our necks traying to navigate to the building in the pitch blackness. They knew for over a week that we were arriving.

We left before the night was over, and I have a feeling we will never get an apology phone call, a refund, or even the gift certifcate back! DO NOT STAY HERE! I know that some people have left positive reviews, but also keep in mind that there are negative reviews... horrible ones. And if you want to take a chance on ruining a perfectly good vacation, then book here. But if not, stay somewhere without such conflicting reviews!!!!!!!!!

  • Liked — The views of the water are probably the only asset
  • Disliked — The rudeness of the owners, the filthy and messy accomodations

“Absolutely perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2008

It's been several years since we stayed at the Aloha, but it stands out as one of the most perfect bed and breakfast experiences of my life.

Greg and Lalaine were wonderful hosts, not intrusive, but knowledgeable of the area and friendly. Their properties are beautiful yet amazingly comfortable and inviting. And the breakfast is simply superb.

Over the years, several of my family members have stayed at Aloha when we visited Gig Harbor from Alabama and Georgia, and we have all been awestruck by the accommodation. It's a must!

“Wonderful in Every Way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2008

We have stayed at several Gig Harbor properties in the past but the Aloha Beachside Bed and Breakfast was by far the best place we have stayed at. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Wong!

We stayed in the Cabana and although it has two guest rooms, we were lucky and no one else was staying there so we got the entire cabana to ourselves. The cabana has two bedrooms and a sitting area upstairs, and a living room, dining room, and kitchen downstairs. It was just lovely with beautiful bed linens, a waterfront view, and a private deck.

The main house was also beautiful as well as the expansive gardens. Breakfast was wonderful with fresh mango, guava juice, Kona coffee, a fruit and nut oatmeal, bacon, waffles, and chocolate dipped strawberries....whew! The hostess, Lalanie Wong, was very nice and friendly. We watched her as we ate breakfast and she gave special attention to each guest without being intrusive. My husband is very shy but he loved this bed and breakfast and he felt very comfortable.

After breakfast, we took a walk on the beach, which you can access by a short flight of stairs near the cabana. The beach is rocky but we found all sorts of shells, rocks, sand dollars, and seaglass. It was a warm and wonderful morning.

We were sorry to leave and want to go back soon so we can stay longer. We highly recommend the Aloha Beachside. Not sure what the situation was with the previous review. All I can say is that there are always two sides to every story and Wongs are wonderful people.

“Ripped Off On My Wedding Night!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2008

I still can't believe that the owner of this place had the nerve to pull a fast one on me the night of my wedding. I had stopped by the property to see what it was like because I was getting married a month later and wanted a nice place to go after the wedding. The owner showed me around and convinced me to book on the spot giving me a discount for helping her out. She only had that one room left to book for that particular night. It was a beautiful room-great walk in shower and view of the water. I booked it giving her my credit card number. Everything is great till the day of my wedding. On the way to the ceremony I call asking if my sister can stop by to put a basket of things in our room. It is then that she tells me that my room is no longer available-Someone else now is staying in there. Instead we get a little room right inside the front door- no bathroom or view or anything. We left early skipping the breakfast-I couldn't look the owner in the face without screaming at her. It was weeks before I told my wife how we were ripped off. No phone call from the owner to apologize, nothing but broken promises that I paid for.
