“Good, clean hotel.”

This place is not fancy, but we were surprised by how clean and spacious our room was. Parking and breakfast were free, and the area was very quiet and safe. The beds were very comfortable. There is nothing luxurious about the place, but it's as good as any well-run Comfort Inn or Sleep Inn. A good option for those who aren't seeking the cozy, B &B feel.

“Very good value”

The room was extremely clean (no disgusting carpet with creepy things in the corners, suspicious looking blankets, or a nasty shower curtains). Everything was very, very clean and smelled nice. The room was suprisingly large as well (we stayed in room 215). The bed was firm and very comfortable. For the value, I don't have any complaints and would stay there again without hesitation. If you are not expecting the Ritz then you should be very happy with the accomodations.

“Good for a night stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2009

We stayed here last weekend. The rooms are big, with a microwave and Fridge. The furnishing is basic, but comfy. if you are going to be in the room just for the night, it is a great option, being one of the cheapest in the area. Breakfast is nothing special, cereal and bagels and toast. It is right across the road from a grocery store and a pharmacy so there are options to get some ready to eat food and heat it in the room, instead of eating out, if you are on a tight budget. The management gave us a 10% discount on the rates since we asked what was their best price for the rooms.

However, if you are interested in visiting deception pass and nearby areas, I would recommend living in Coupeville, which is 30 miles closer than Freeland and has rooms available for around $75. You can also skip the ferry and drive right across from the highway, great option if you are in seattle.

“Basic motel, but clean and dog friendly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2008

We have stayed at this property several times when visiting Whidbey. It is a motel with exterior doors and parking outside the rooms. They provide very large rooms which are clean and have a fridge. However, the rooms are very basic, with cheap furniture and 80's era restrooms. We've always found the staff to be friendly. The main attraction for us is that it is a dog friendly property with a very large, grassy yard which is ideal for dogs to get some off leash exercise and play time.

I agree with a previous reviewer - the Chinese restaurant in Freeland is one of the best we've tried and is set in a fabulous old mansion. Beware the pizza place though - overpriced cardboard!

“Good for dogs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2007

Our main concern in finding a place to stay on Whidbey Island one weekend in September 2007 was being able to board with our dog, as we came to the island for a dog-related event. We found the Harbour Inn listed in a dog-friendly travel book. It is a property built in about the 1960s (room doors open to the outside, and you can park right outside your room). Like other reviewers here, I would not call it a B & B; I would call it a good-quality family-run motel. The rooms were very large and very clean. Our dog was welcome (once they asked what breed he is). They even provide special dog-friendly bed covers upon request (we didn't use one, as our dog is happy on the floor). They provided breakfast the morning we were there (toast, cereal, oatmeal, coffee, OJ), but we didn't try it because there is a really good cafe a few doors up the hill. We paid $115 for one night, which seems a bit expensive to me, but I get the feeling that most places on Whidbey charge a lot more than that. One thing to note is that most of the other customers seemed above 50 years of age, which was great for us, but might not be the best if you're planning to do some partying.
